RJ Helton from the first season of American Idol announced last year that he was gay, saying that current natural disasters made him wake up to the fact that life was short. While Jim Verraros was the first openly gay contestant, I always felt R.J. was gay too. In 2004, I read an article about his Christian music and how much he love god---while that is fine and all, I felt sort of disappointed.
