Two Gay Couples with Surrogates on ABC

Applauds to ABC to have two shows with two different gay couples with surrogates, trying to make a baby, trying to have a baby. One is Lee and Bob on "Desperate Housewives," which became apparent a month ago. The second is Kevin and Scotty of "Brothers & Sisters," who have been with this arc for over the last couple of months. Now, I know the two shows work separately and probably didn't know each other, but it is awfully convenient that both shows air back to back.

Brothers & Sisters - Time After Time - 2 hours Special Review

The show already aired Sunday April 11th 9pm & 10pm but I needed time to think about it. I love Brothers & Sisters, I haven't reviewed one episode. My mom and I watch it religiously, my mom loved it, it probably look two years for her to figure out Kevin was gay. She watches it when she is doing stuff so never looked up, just heard it. Anyway, this was a great episode, well 2 episodes.

We see the Walker siblings in the 80's, when Sarah is a college student, she has a party at the family business. Tommy got drunk and had a car accident, this was the mis-de-direct. We are to believe Tommy was the big secret. Because Nora announces, in real time to the family that they are being blackmailed and are getting money for the company. So the family deduces that the thing Dick York is blackmailing about is Tommy maybe killing a guy. But in the end, they find out it was Kevin. It was very emotional and I think very cool, sort of ground-breaking. What happen was that Kevin had this friend from another school. This friend Aaron (Tyler Neitzel) tried kissing him, they were both drunk and Kevin punched him and they both fought.

Kevin was only 14 at the time and not out yet. The boy fell on the ground off a height like in a dock and got in a coma, and ended up paralyzed. Kevin didn't know, at that moment, his dad came into the scene. His dad only saw the fighting, according to his mom. Parents lied to Kevin, Kevin thought the boy was fine, and not paralyzed. And since Kevin was drunk and young, he barely remembered. Now he discovered the truth and he went to visit Adult Aaron (Christopher Thornton), who is in a wheelchair and happy with his partner. What the guy said to Kevin was to move on and to me it rang like a gay person wrote it. It is not negative, but it is very knowing and the dialogue is not that fluid, it seemed rehearsed. But of course, the guy might have rehearsed that speak for 25 years. So Kevin is having negativity against his mother. After the two parter, I am surprised he is still holding a grudge but I gues it will be a longer arc.

Kevin in Str8 Kiss in "Brothers and Sisters"

TV Guide reports that on "Brothers and Sisters," sibling Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) will be seen kissing his sister-in-law Julia (Sarah Jane Morris). He is now happily married to Scotty. "We're all happy that Matthew got to switch it up," co-star Emily VanCamp has said. At hearing this, I don't think it is a threat to his sexual orientation. It is said that Kevin will be 'on heavy meds' and a hint that leads to the kissing, "It'll have something to do with the sperm Kevin donated last season to help Julia and brother Tommy conceive." I think it would speak true to the situation, whatever it is. Just because a gay guy kisses a woman, it doesn't mean it isn't an honest portrayal of gay people.

TV Guide mentioned GLAAD, in maybe having a problem with this, but I think a more outrage is the cover article with Robert Sean Leonard and Hugh Laurie. The cover says 'Bromantic' (which I believe is more platonic than anything), which is fine, but when asked 'Can this bromance be saved?' Leonard instantly related this with homosexuality, which makes me think he doesn't know what he is talking about. And then after Laurie tries salvaging it, Leonard dares to say the dreaded "Not that there's anything wrong with that." harking the old Seinfeld joke, where yes, they do consider there is something wrong with it. So disappointing some guys still don't get it.

Why Brothers & Sisters is good

While 'Desperate Housewives" fluctuates from awkward sitcom-ish comedy and soap opera-ish drama (husbands becoming blind and drug-addicted husbands), "Brothers & Sisters" is something worth watching and savoring. With only four post-strike episodes, they had to cram many storylines together. Next week is the season finale. What fans were suspecting for a long time, Rebecca (Emily VanCamp) is not a Walker, enabling Justin and her to act their impulses. Tonight, the can of worms was released, all the shit hit the fan.

Rachel Griffiths had shown her acting prowess enough to overpower the acting hurricane that is Sally Field. And progressive as it is, Kevin (Matthew Rhys) proposed to Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) and a commitment ceremony will be held next episode. As Kitty got married last year's season finale, it is only appropriate there would be another wedding on this season's. Another storyline was wrapped up/revealed, that Uncle Saul (Ron Rifkin) finally came out as a gay man and appropriately to Kevin. Rarely do gay characters come out to other gay characters on prime time network television. The shows has come along.

Best Brothers & Sisters Ever

The November 11, 2007 episode of "Brothers and Sisters" was the most gut-wrenching and emotionally enjoyable. The Walker family set up a intervention for Justin after the inevitable happened, when he started taking his pain medication. He was an addict way back and his mom Nora (Sally Field) convinced him to get back on it. Let's just say Justin tears everyone a new one, getting on Rebecca and her mom's case; Kevin about him letting his ex-boyfriend live in his apartment while he is under a commitment; his sister Sarah and her divorce, and so on. In a great scene, Kitty puts a mirror on him when she is brutally truthful that she is there for him, even though she is bleeding from her miscarriage.

And Uncle Sal finally confesses to Nora that he was in love with a man. She is hurt that he didn't tell her back when. Then when Kevin entered the room, Nora said, "Oh god." I was insulted, I don't know why but I just was. They all lied to each other after that, that everything is fine and didn't deal with the truth at hand. Anyhoo, on the dumb Tommy side, Tommy confessed to Kevin that he was having an affair with Lena. She breaks up with Lena but she wonders how long ti will take. I feel sorry for Lena, she seems to just be a character that has been brought to serve her purpose. Other than that, it was a real great episode.

My mom and me always watch the show. Usually she is busy and only hears it. Last night, she got to sit and watch it. It effected her so much and she had a nightmare that night. The dream was that she was with the family and it got emotional. She's okay, don't worry. She just says, "Sally Field is such a good actress, you believe what happens to her is really happening." I then ask her if she also saw "Seinfeld."

Brothers & Sisters: When Gay is just right

As in the last post I was complaining about "Desperate Housewives" treatment of gay characters, tonight's episode of "Brothers and Sisters"--they get gay right. The gay innuendo is ripe and full of culture stuff. Uncle Sal goes to the party of his friend. The friend that recently came out as gay in last year's season finale. It has been alluded to be that Sal is actually gay. But the special that aired before the season two premiere, the producers said he might actually be bisexual. Sal is uncomfortable that the room is mostly of men. To make matters worse, Kevin's ex-boyfriend Scott is the waiter at the party. Then when meets with Kevin, he says, "You didn't tell me your uncle was gay."

Kevin does not take this well. Neither did Tommy. Two weeks ago, Rebecca's friend Lena who was hired to the vineyard when Sal and Tommy works---mistakes Sal for gay when he mentions the bachelor life. Tommy gets angry at the insinuation. So is Kevin. I don't believe it is homophobic on Tommy's part, when you are close to your uncle, you think you know everything about them. Kevin, was sure Sal was straight because that's the way they know him. In my life, a male family member committed suicide and I told three gay friends separately and they asked me individually if he was gay. I was insulted. Not because I couldn't see my family member as being gay or that I thought being gay is a exclusive club, but I believe I know the family member very well. Well, also--a bit off topic but I don't like connecting male suicide with issues of sexuality. Anyway back to show...

Kevin decides to confront Sal about it, he is defensive. Of course, Kevin is the gay expert in the family and he gets to the heart of the matter--if Sal is indeed gay, he could have defended him when he came out to his father--who didn't take it well. All Kevin wanted was consolation, support. He also offers the hand for Sal's own consolation over his sexuality.

Brothers & SIsters Season 2 Episode 1 Review

Where we last lef the Walkers of "Brothers & Sisters," Justin (Dave Annable) went to back into war; Kevin (Matthew Rhys) started a relationship with Kitty's Senator fiancee Robert's brother Jason (Eric Winter); Sarah (Rachael Griffiths) has separated with her husband; and Tommy (Balthazar Getty) and his wife Julia (Sarah Morris) suffered a loss of their son while their baby daughter is healthy and alive. It starts off with Nora (Sally Field) doing a webcam video for Justin and talking about what the family has been up to. She hasn't seen most of them through the summer. Kitty's birthday nears and so does the anniversary of their father's death. Kitty returns to her mother and gets the cold shoulder. They fight during trying to pick out her wedding dress and it gets on YouTube. Rebecca (Emily VanKamp) is in Kitty's old room and Kitty resents her. They come to a head with their rivalry. Julia is understandably disappeared after the death of her son, she hasn't come out of her house and only talks to her parents. Sarah has hot sex with her still sexy husband Joe (John Pyper-Ferguson) and she still has hopes of getting back together.

Through the whole episode we are made to worry about Justin as Nora and the rest of the family. Let me just say Justin Walker is a great character. Not only is he was a surfing recovering drug-abusing veteran, he cared a lot about his family. He moved beyond the hetero-stereotype, he has no problem taking care of his nephews, hanging out with his sisters and had the heart to pull Rebecca into the family. He is surely missed through the episode, it is not a bad thing because I think that is what they were going for. Rebecca even mentions it at the end, that he is the heart. Rebecca is getting to be an interesting character, I like Emily better with this character than the one in "Everwood." The episode gets a bit preachy too but with all the melodrama and comedy, you let them get away with it. The Walkers sure do drink a lot and it is understandable, with everything they have to put up with. I would be drinking too!

Jason drops the bomb on Kevin that he is off to Malaysia to perhaps for a year. Before he does that, we do get to see Eric Winter shirtless. Yay! For pictures from that episode of Eric Click Here at DreamCaps Forums Being that we only seen Kevin and Jason together for two episodes, it feels kind of rushed that they are talking about that Kevin even hasn't said "I love you" or they haven't 'defined' their relationship but Kevin did say Jason was his boyfriend. Maybe if they left it for a n episode more. Fans and viewers like it when you extend a relationship more than two episodes. It felt all too premature. It is all about a plot line that Kevin is learning how to keep the faith and even praying. Their kiss is covered by their heads. As for the other gay storyline, I stand by that Saul Holden (Ron Rifkin) is bisexual. His old friend drops by with a picture of them in the past. That is all. He later calls Kevin's bitching a bluff by saying he doesn't know how easy he has it.

I was going to say this next part is full of spoilers but ABC has pretty much done that. I actually am worried about Justin because he is a great character. By the near end of the episode, we get good news and then get bad news again. ABC has been showing clips of a funeral in the previews. I was relived not to see the funeral scene wasn't in this episode but it is yet again shown in next week's preview. What a spoiler. I don't like that ABC or whoever did that. In the scene in question, there is a coffin covered an American Flag and a gun shooting salute. There is Kitty, Nora, and Robert. If ABC is not doing this to spoil us but to fuck with our hearts (they even show Justin in black & white)--that is not called for. I am hoping it is just a friend of Justin's.

Eric Winter Eye Candy

Eric Winter plays Jason McAllister in "Brothers & Sisters," the third match to the gay brother (Matthew Rhys) and Rob Lowe's gay minister brother. He's so hot.

Dirt and Brothers and Sisters: Secretly Gay Celebrity storylines

It is common to happen that TV shows will have similar story lines or premises but I just noticed one. In last Sunday the 14th's episode of Brothers and Sisters, Sex and the City's Jason Lewis started his guest star role as Chad Berry a soap star who has a crush on the 'Gay Brother' Matthew Rhys and they evidently start a secret relationship. Now on tonight's Dirt (Courtney Cox's new FX series), Lucy's brother Leo played by Will McMormack (The Sopranos' Jason La Penna) was given a hummer by a popular married star Jack Dawson (Melrose Place's Grant Show). Both Lewis and Grant are playing closeted super stars.

Grey's Anatomy T.R. Knight outted

This is an open letter to actor T.R. Knight who plays the lovelorn George on 'Grey's Anatomy' who I feel has been force out because of questions of his sexuality. The tabloids who I hold with a grain of salt that supposedly Isaiah Washington said a gay slur. Anyhoo, T.R. released a statement ten days ago.

I regret it had to be this way but it seems many people are obessed to know if an actor or celebrity is gay and then forget about them when they do. Although it can be said that there is a lot of successful celebrities that have come out but that is like a handful. At least it is in the air now. I honestly admire you, I understand you want to keep to your private life private but you don't care what people care. It honestly is no one business. I came out ten years ago when I was a teenager, and it was a long road but also helped me accept myself. Just let no one get to you (I had my hair blue once too!). Like you said, it is no the only aspect of you and it doesn't define all of you. I think of it, if people know other people have a girlfriend or wife, then why not know this and be fine with it? It is all should be the same.

A mother with many kids and in therapy with her husband. She had an affair with her former co-worker friend. She now works in the business belonging to her maternal uncle and father. She seems the smartest. Kitty and Sarah are close.

Dave Annable get another chance this season

This face might not look familiar but last season he was in the short-lived FOX (what a surprise right? they are a pilot cemetery) series Reunion about high school graduates who we see them a year per episode to find out who was killed and who killed them but that was canceled.

He is now a part of Brothers & Sisters with Calista Flockhart, Sally Field, and Rachel Griffins.
