Pollo Campero to Miami FINALLY?

Like I mentioned last March, I am coocoo over Pollo Campero. Nobody understands better than other Guatemalans or Guatemalan-Americans. I mentioned they are here in the U.S. but not in Miami, but it just so happens that in December a store just opened in Boynton Beach, Florida and now there is rumors of it coming to Calle Ocho--- Saying three section in Miami-Dade (Little Havana, Cutler Ridge, and near Dolphin Stadium). There happens to be some kind of fued over the family of the creators and owners, detailed here. And it just so happens, there is plans to have Pollo Camperos in United States Wal-Marts like they have McDonalds in two in Chicago and Dallas. Details here. Apparently someone feels the same as I do: MenuPages Blog.

Love over Guatemalan Idol Carlos Peña

The Latin American Idol is over (September 26) and the winner is Carlos Peña and he has lots of fans. The whole country of Guatemala won't stop talking about. I know this because my parents are from Guatemala and they listen to radio stations online. His full name is Carlos Enrique Peña Aldana and he's 19 and from Guatemala. He beat out a Mexican participant. Picture from fan blog, carlosfans.net

Here is the official website of Latin American Idol.

The only popular singer to ever come from Guatemala is Ricardo Arjona, he wasn't that popular in his home country until he went to Mexico and other countries. Now people lvoe him. Well, all the luck to Carlos..

Carlos Mencia: 2 digs on Guatemala

I never mention Carlos Mencia because he never upsets me and I understand he does this in fun, making fun of all ethnicities. I personally like his song "Jale me Jale me la," he can always get away with some Spanish slang because American Censors have no ideas what he is saying. What was supposed to be an Arabian song, 'Jale me la' means 'Wack mine,' somewhat like 'Jack me off.' My parents are from Guatemala. And tonight he dug Guatemala twice. I am proud of my heritage. It is so unique. I love tamales, mom cooks them every Christmas. Guatemala is apparently Central America's 'taint.' And he said something about Guatemala not having electricity (they do) or somehting, I don't remember. Doesn't matter, I don't care. It was funny. Only if my family even understood what a taint was. They don't even have a word for masturbation or 'straight' person.

Pollo Campero

When one thinks of the nation of Guatemala, fried chicken might not be the top of the list. My parents and entire family are from Guatemala. The most popular fried chicken fast food chain in Central America originated in Guatemala and is known as Pollo Campero ('Country Chicken'). I can recount of stories of people bringing boxes of the delicious (by my account) chicken with them on board the airplane to the states. Strangely enough the chain has restaurants in Chicago, Virgina and Maryland but not in Miami, the leading capital in Latinos. Of course, New York, California, and Texas have the distinction of being the first cities in the United States to carry the chain. Its been like probably four years since I've had their chicken. I know it might not taste the same in the States, they aren't exactly the monster mutant machince of MickeyDees.
