Different versions of X-Men in the X-films

There is a sore spot in fans (including me) but depending on the producer, director or casting director, different mutants have showed up in the various X-Men films played by different actors. My problem isn't that they are played by different actors but the portrayal of them conflict and there's no continuity. Now, even one character has appeared in three films played by different actresses and time periods. I'm not counting Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart/James Mcavoy), Magento (Ian Mckellen/Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Rebecca Romajin/Jennifer Lawrence), Cyclops (James Marsden/Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Framke Jensen/Sansa Stark), Storm (Halle Berry/Alexandra Shipp) and Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming/Kodi Smit-Mcphee)  as actors are playing them at different ages. Tim Pocock also played a young Cyclops in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but thankfully Days of Future Past canceled that out.

Jubilee
In X-Men (2000), she has a non-speaking role by Katrina Floerce and is a teenager. In X-2, she is played by Kea Wong. She is mistankingly put on IMDB as appearing in X-Men: Last Stand but it as actually Psylocke. She was a teenager in the 2000's. But then because of the time-travel change, Jubilee's parents might have her earlier because she magically appears as a teenager in the 80's. Unless she was a twenty-something in the 2000's. In the new X-Men: Apocalypse film, Lana Condor plays her. The excuse with other characters like Psylocke, Angel and Sabertooth was that other directors directed those movies they were in but Bryan Singer directed all the movies she is in. I guess she didn't have a major role in the first 2 movies, it is excusable.

Kitty Pryde
In X-Men, she had a quick cameo played by Sumela Kay and went through a door, startling Wolverine. In X-2, she was played Katie Stuart and tried escaping from Stiker's forces. In X-Men: Last Stand and Days of Future Past, Ellen Page played her in bigger roles than in the first two movies.

Psylocke
Psylocke had a minor role by Mei Melancon in X-Men: The Last Stand and was a villain and destroyed. Now she is portrayed by Olivia Munn in X-Men: Apocalypse. She is slightly older than her first incarnation and since she wasn't mentioned by name in the movies, it is excusable. It could've been a different mutant completely.

Angel
Warren Worthington was portrayed by Ben Foster in X-Men: The Last Stand who appeared in the beginning and sparingly throughout the movie. He is now slightly younger in X-Men: Apocalypse played by Ben Hardy. The Worthingtons probably also got busy before they originally did because of the time schism.

Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds played him in Wolverine: Origins (2009) and then in Deadpool (2016). No one liked his portrayal in the first movie and he fought for the role again and now everyone love the new movie he plays the character like in the comics.

 Gambit
Taylor Kitsch played Remy LeBeau in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he will now be portrayed by Channing Tatum in a new movie.

Sabertooth
Liev Schreiber played Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Logan's brother. While Tyler Mane played him in the first X-Men movie. Ugh, let's just ignore both.

Moira MacTaggert
Played by in a small role in X-Men: Last Stand, she was a doctor how she was in the comics. But played by Rose Byrne in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse as a spy and ally. She is not a mutant but a vital character. Little confusing as she is the same age in the 70's as in 2006, probably not the same character.

Generation X FOX TV Movie (1996)

In 1996, at the height of popularity of the 1992 X-Men animated series, a TV-Movie was produced by New World Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment on FOX. It was based on the comic book series "Generation X," which was the younger sect of Mutants mentored/lead by the White Queen and Banshee. Many fans don't like this movie, I liked it a bit when it first came out and now, seeing clips on YouTube, it is not so bad. It actually has some issues from the X-Men movies, like mutant registry and 'terrorism' is thrown around. It infamously featured a Caucasian Jubilee, which got lots of people angry, she is Asian in everything else. What I don't remember was that Emma Frost, was played by Finola Hughes, who is best known for All My Children and being the Halliwell's mother Patty in "Charmed." I knew her from "Blossom" as the step-mother. What I didn't knwo was that there is another version of this movie, outside of the United States, it had curse words, crude humor and racial slurs. One character calls another a 'wetback,' and in one good scene, a male student doubts he can concentrate and relax at the same time and Frost says to think about when he is 'playing with himself.'

Other than Finola Hughes, the cast included Jeremy Ratchford as Banshee, Heather McComb as Jubilee, Matt Frewer (Max Headroom) as the bad guy Russel--exclusive to the movie. From the Generation X movie, M (super strong and abilities, 'perfect'), Mondo (can take on the properties of a material he absorbs) and Skin (stretch skin, wrap around). The other two mutants of the original comic line-up were Chamber (whose chest and jaw was fire--or psionic energy ) and Husk (she sheds skin to another form of metal or something else), and they added characters in place of them. One was Refrax, who everyone thinks had a waste of a power because his was just x-ray laser eyes, but I think it was more like their 'Cyclops.' And another was Buff, who was the only one who got a superhero 'suit' at the end of the movie, as seen below. Her mutation increases her muscle mass and strength and she is ashamed of it. Refrax and Buff also kinda hooked up, much like Chamber and Husk in the comics.

Characters from TV to Comics

Usually comic book characters are the ones adpated to Television, Movies, etc. but sometimes some characters will outshine and are worth being printed on paper and carrying on in the canon universe. Starting with the Batman the Animated Series back in 1992, Hayley Quinn capatured audiences as a female sidekick to the Joker. There were female sidekicks to the Joker in the 70's on television but Harley is much more fleshed out and adored. She transitioned to comics in the Graphic Novel based on the cartoon 'Mad Love' that went to animation, about her origin. She was a psychiatrist that worked at the Arkham Asylum where the Joker was interacted in and he slowly had his touch on her and then the rest is history. On the animated series, she slowly began being paired with Posion Ivy, mostly when she had a fallng out with Joker. She has since been in all other forms such as dolls, video games, the short-lived Birds of Prey TV series, and season four of The Batman.

Most or all of the characters that have went from television to comic books have been female. Others including Firestar from my favorite series growing up Spider-man and his Amazing Friends. She originated there supposedly being a former X-Men but then later in-continuity comic books such as the Uncanny X-Men, The Warriors, The New Avengers and other Spider-Man related comics.

As from Batman Animated Series, Rene Montoya police officer who has recently been linked romantically to Batwoman.

Recently X-23, Wolverine's clone (not Morrow!) who originated in X-Men: Evolution.

Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor's hot female bodyguard from the Animated series of Superman. In the comic book she has appeared along with Hope, another hired muscle. When the witch Circe attempted to visit Lex Luthor at the White House, Hope and Mercy attempt to stop her by saying that they could always recognize her, denoting previous familiarity, which the Amazons in the Wonder Woman comic have. Although Hope's time as a LexCorp employee has passed, Mercy can still be seen with the fugitive Lex Luthor.

Lastly but not least, as recent as the beginniung of 2006 Lori Petty's villianess. The Animated universe has been known as the DCAU, her comic character is similar and she also has disdain for Billy Batson--Captain Marvel.

X-Men: Last Stand Non-Spoilerly Review

I was so excited to see the movie and after watching it, I still liked it. It is good but not great. Indeed being the movie with a shorter length than the last two, it does feel bit packed in. Not rushed, just stuffed. Even in the quiet moments, they don't say what they should be saying. Brian Singer's absence is felt, but Brett Ratner did have an ambitious try. There are alot of shocking and at times disappointing moments. All the elements of a hit, it just doesn't get it. Strangely it does live up to expectations (especially the rampage of the Phoenix saga), it does indeed finalize the 'trilogy'.

I do want more movies team-wise (we do have Wolverine spin-off and Magento prequel), 'the next generation' is set up but it feels there is not enough of the 'old generation' to support them. The X-Men comic books do offer lots of fodder for more than nine Star Trek movies. These three X-Men movies offer a different brand X-men, without extraterrestials, other dimensions, variety of flying X-Men and step-children from the future and instead turns in things that never occured in the comic books. It sort of grounds our favorite characters in a more topical reality with mortal limits and sums up the series.

Inviso-text for Minor-Spoilers:
One statement from one of the producers that it would be stupid to start off and end the movie with Dark Phoenix but it pretty much does.

Inviso-text for Major-Spoilers:
The death tolls includes Scott Summers, Charles Xavier, Phoenix and a couple of the Brotherhood. The secret scene after the credits is Xavier seemingly coming back alive in a comatose man and found by Moira.

Identify the Mutant

Everyone knows X-men: The Last Stand (opening May 26) is introducing a lot more mutants than just Angel (Ben Foster), Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones). Instead of bringing out the more popular, I believe they opted for mutants that people won't complain much about. Kids from the last movie are back such as Kea Wong as Jubilee, Shauna Kain as Siryn, and Bryce Hodgson as Artie. Ellen Page is the third Kitty Pryde who is Bobby Drake's new squeeze after Rouge chooses to go for that mcguffin cure. My only tiff with Kitty's uniform is that it is outlined with pink. Here is a list of others that may be hard to identify:

Callisto
Actress: Dania Ramirez was one of those cute potentials from the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer named Caridad who made a move on Xander in a dream. She is from the Dominician Repulic. Funny enough she will play a character called Angel in movie The Fifth Commandment.
Comics: Her first appearance in Uncanny X-men #169, a mutant with superhuman strength, she started out as a bad guy.

Omahyra Mota as Arclight and Meiling Melançon as Psylocke. There probably be fan-backlash about many of the characters especially Psylocke, her protrayed as a young hoochie. Arclight's power is to create shockwaves through physical contact, usually with her super strength in form of punches.

Quill
Actor: Ken Leung is the guy next to Juggernaut who releases quills from his face.
Comics: First appeared in New X-Men: Academy X #1, his power is the same. He is a good guy, part of the Resistance group.

As for Multiple Man, I covered him here.

The kid at the right side is the same kid from the last movie that flips channels with his eyes. He may be glued to that couch.

McSteamy Multiplied

For fans of Charmed and Grey's Anatomy, Eric Dane who played one of Phoebe's newspaper boyfriends and recently Derek 'McDreamy' (Patrick Dempsey)'s ex-friend who slept with his wife--McSteamy. If you just can't get enough, check him out on X-Men: The Last Stand.
Multiple-Man never look so good.

And I mean that literally!
