Scrubs Series Finale Review

Since last year, I had heard there was going to be a big cameo appearance by a lot of the minor characters that have been on the show Scrubs in the finale. I waited and waited through the two-part finale and the episode was mostly about that it wasn't going to be a big farewell to JD, who was changing hospitals. So by mid-way to the 2nd part, it finally happened but it was a dream sequence of sorts. Many of them looked familiar and some looked so different, unrecognizable. There was like 3 or 4 dead ones, except for his dad and Brendan Faser. Some I did not recognize (even though I watch the reruns all the day!). It was a good 2-parter, about how things don't have be how you expect them. We finally got Janitor's true name.. sort of. And there was a nice emotional moment between Carla and JD. JD had a 'projector home movies' sort of dream sequence of the future, where he and Elliott marry, have a daughter and then in the future, he and Turk's first-borns are engaged. But of course, these are just fantasies. When he left Sacred Heart in his car, I was afraid he was going to get in a car accident after saying who is to say his fantasies wouldn't come true but thank god, he left with no accident. After the commercial break, we got a making-of-of sorts of course.

Gilmore Girls Proper Send-Off

I was on vacation and out of nowhere, little did I suspect 'Gilmore Girls' was going to have a series finale. I was shocked to say the least. I wasn't really keeping track of the show because the new episodes were showing sporadically, unlike 'Lost' and 'Grey's Anatomy.' 'Gilmore Girls' has been a great show, even though it has not been up to par in the past few years, even with Amy Sherman-Palladino, but every hit shows goes through that. There has been plenty of memorable moments this year (Rory and Logan's rocket, Lane's babies being born). It was actually no surprise they were calling it quits because rumors about Lauren Graham and Alexis Biedel's contracts being up and mixed feelings about Amy being fired. When the series finale was airing, I was thinking about why Amy didn't do it but Lauren says in a interview that it wasn't her way to write and direct the finale, she would have had wanted to be in it 100%.

The series finale was actually satisfying. Fans complained that you didn't feel closure. The cast even says that they didn't know if it was the series finale or not. I think the episode topic dealt with the feelings everyone was feeling about it being 'too soon and loss and not enough time.' There were plenty of great moments like Rory and Lane's goodbye and so forth. If you didn't see it, it was about Rory being employed as an intern to travel on the campaign bus of Obama. So Lorelai and Rory's planned trip to check out all the rollercosters around the country was canceled. Loreali ofcourse was crushed and held it in. A planned college graduation party by the whole town of Stars Hallow was canceled so Luke took charge of a last minute farewell party, even under rain. So, everyone feels Lorelai and Luke's relationship was left on hinges but I think it was perfect how they did it. How would have the fans felt if their relationship was rushed and got married all in one episode? It wouldn't be the 'Gilmore Girls.' So in the end of the episode, they zoomed out from Luke's Diner as a homage to the first episode.

Everwood A Look Back

First Air Date: September 16, 2002
Firstly with all the boo-hah about it, I thought it would a load of crap family show and had a lot of critical praise. The plot---a dead beat 'top doctor' father decides to move his teenage son and daughter to a small mountain town from New York after his wife dies in a car accident. The teenage son Ephram (Gregory Smith) is a genius pianist resents his father and then falls in love with a chick who has a boyfriend in a coma. I couldn't stand any of the characters, they were a back of stuck-ups. The father was a dorky full-of-it, the son a ungrateful crybaby, the girl he liked a total bitch and her father as a complete a-hole. But soon I warmed up to them. They were clearly flawed characters and the mistakes they made were sure fun to watch. ANd there was plenty of homoerotic fun between Colin (Mike Erwin) and Ephram.

Finale: June 5, 2006
Since then, Ephram inpreganted the babysitter and only his father knew and then he found out when he was auditioning for Juliard. So Ephram is a dead beat dad now. Hannah (Sarah Drew), a character introduced two years ago reminds me much of my first girlfriend, the overreacting bookworm church girl, falls in love ofcourse with the wrong guy--Bright (Chris Pratt) and ofcourse he cheats on her, albeit a year later. Recently, Ephram met his grandfather who surprise, surprise his father has problems with him too. The grandfather brilliantly played by Charles Durning.

Recently, Bright and Ephram's roommate Reid (hottie Justin Baldoni) surprisingly attempts suicide by taking overdose of pills and let water steam throughout closed bathroom after he is kicked out of medical school. He was known of a well-adjusted, happy and heavly excersing guy. For several episodes, the kdis thought he was gay which led on and WB kept doing promos about Amy being into a gay guy and it even wasn't about the episode! They showed his hot torso for a minute or so and the actor said he was self-conscious about it.

Anyway, it was a good show and yes, I was getting tired of Scott Wolf's dimples. I wouldn't be surprised if he made a cameo on Lost.

Charmed Series Finale: The Best

It was pretty good episode, continuation from the last ep, after the Charmed Ones and the other two sisters both used the Hollow, Phoebe and Paige end up dead. Piper and Leo (who the Angel of Destiny gives back to her) use Coop's ring to go back to the past to her sisters but end up picking up her mom from before Phoebe was born (1976) and grams from when she was raising the three.
Without spoiling any more, the ep generating much of the Charmed folklore and keeping most of the history correct with hiralous results (their mother realizes she divorced her husband, had an affair with her whitelighter, had Paige and died in bacially one instant). It was very clear and very heartwarming. The ending, ends as a commulasion of years. And Adult Wyatt (Wes Ramsey) sure is hot with shorter hair. Is it me or did Wyatt act like the little brother?

That 70's Show FInale sucked

The finale is half-assed and part of it was full of clips of early shows. Topher Grace appeared in the last two scenes and the supposed wrapup between Donna and Eric was just like, 'Things changed. I college. You Africa.' The whole episode ended with them counting down to 1980 on New Years Eve and Kelso was the last seen. The ending credits was the one shown on the first ep of the young gang singing horribly to a song and Fez saying they sing good. And ofcourse they tried the old 'we are moving and then at end, we love you, we won't move' ending.

Wah-What??! Moment: 7th Heaven

Entertinment Weekly has announced that 7th Heaven (one of the shows I was featuring as ending this year) has been picked up for its 11th season on the new network CW. One of their percupaciones (worry) is how will they explain that most of the women announced they are pregnant with twins. That's their big worry?

The plot was simple. A college spy girl. J.J. Abhrams, known only from Felicity, surprised everybody with a complex web about a woman being in an agency that is actually the bad guys and her father is actually a double agent and she is too and her partner doesn't know about this. Her best friend in her house doesn't know she is a spy and one of her friends that had a crush on her is investagating on her. That is not the most complex part, I omitted the Rambaldi. Ah, the famous Rambaldi. Then it was revealed that her mom was a spy too and a bad one at that...

Now: Two-hour series finale 5/22/2006
Since then, she has found out that she has an Argentinean half-sister who was raised by one guy she didn't really like, the former runner of SD-6. Her love (Vartan) got married, divorced and died and Sydney ended up pregnant. The show was pretty great, it had to be complex and deep in myth to make up for Sydney dressing up sexy and pretending she can speak certain languages everytime like a cycle. That did get tiring and was the only thing people will point out. But I think its time to end it. 5 years, everything they have done, thats good enough. I mean, honestly, she even had two 'Dawns.' Her sister and a trainee. Buffy it is not (sans the vampire ep) and got more Emmy attention but it is defiantely its own creature. Now that J.J. offers is what we expect.. Lost is a definite hit. Sorry we can't say the same for Wah-Wah fest What About Brian. Yes, exactly, you may be asking yourself what is What About Brian?

That 70's Show A Look WAY Back

Back Then: 8/23/1998
It started in the summer, a rarity for a show. I don't think FOX suspected it would be such a hit. The episodes were even shot out of order. The first season was really great, too bad the episodes dont have creator commentary on the DVD for the first season. What great eps were when Eric finds a new friend and he turns out to be gay. And the Star Wars ep is definately up there and made Eric look less like a whim. I really do love the reruns, they are truly awesome. Don't you notice Fez in the first season was more intutitive than the others but later become a nerd. Eric's sister was not added to the cast until the second season and once she quit, another actress was put in and then disappeared.


Now then: 5/18/2006
Josh Meyers (Formerly from MADTV and younger brother of SNL's Seth Meyers) was added for the eight season when Topher Grace but the show started going down hill pretty much when Donna and Eric came back from California confessing their love for each other, Donna went to Catholic school and Eric proposed. That was good but then the characters started getting dressed more like children and acting more so. Kelso became more a caricature than before (even though he got a daughter and shagged almost everyone's sisters), Fez became more a closet case, Hyde got whipped, no wonder Topher and Asthon left. Topher asked for more money in the seventh season and got it but enough was enough. The show should have just ended when Eric left. They have been stuck in the year 79 for three years. They were in 11th grade for two years and 12th for three. Yikes. AND they never moved anywhere... Eric and Donna never got married, never moved away (which Kitty freaked out alot about), and Hyde never moved in with his father. Lordy. It promised to change but never did. Me Me became We We We.

The eight season did bring back Fez's crazy ex Caroline, Mary Tyler Moore, and matched Jackie with Fez. I really was hoping for Jackie and Hyde. Too bad. The finale promises to bring back Asthon and Topher and promises to end Eric and Donna's saga.

Will and Grace A look Back

First Episode: 9/21/1998
I was very exicted when I heard this show was coming out. One of the first popular show including gay characters. Many say it has gay humor, other people wouldn't understand but I knowing them, they aren't that hard to get. The things I couldn't believe they got away with was they 'aww no they didn't' moments but where when they would show Jack getting up with a short Asian man and his grandpa. We never seen gay men taking care of their elders. Rarely did we see gay people doing anything, so where there was an opportunity, this show did it. But to the core characters, I was never happy with how whiny Grace was or how incomplete she was. As for Will, the creators said they gave him more flaws because they couldn't have a characters wilth no problems at all. But I like the well-adjusted Will better.

Last Episode: 5/18/2006
Eight years later, Jack and Grace have gotten married to the opposite sex, Jack found out he had a kid, Grace is pregnant and Will has stayed the same. He had a mildly interesting boyfriend for a while but that was just too little too late. The show just went down hill and jumped many sharks, this puppy should be put to rest. Recently, Jack got a talk show on a fantasy gay network and constantly hits on his cute assistants. Going beyond reality, Jack would have been slapped with a lawsuit long ago. Revealing how things really wnt down between the two lead characters in the past just shattered my vision of how it was. It would have just been better they kept it under wraps--how Grace found out Will was gay and him having his first experience with a woman wasn't Grace. NBC has made this finale a big deal and is releasing the DVD of the final episode the week after it airs, just like they did with Friends.

The West Wing A Look Back

First Season: 9/22/1999
I do admit I did watch a couple episodes but much like a MAD TV parody, you found yourself following people around and around as they walked through a hallway. As the show makes you feel smarter by watching it, it also had a prestige feeling, that you just had to watch it. Allison Janney would tell John Stewart on the Daily Show that officials had problems telling the difference from reality and make-believe as well asking her for advice.

Last Episode: 5/14/2006
Different president, lower ratings, how quickly a show has lost its zing, people forget about it and so its canceled. Ironic as Christopher Masterson from Malcolm in the Middle and his brother and girlfriend's show That 70's Show ending as Jane Kaczmarek is married with Bradley Whitford who plays Josh Lyman on the West Wing.

Charmed A Look Back

Back then: 10/7/1998
Not exactly a mid-season replacement, coming in late in October. It was a sleeper hit, no one expected it to be a hit but it was. As much people didn't want to admit it, Shannon Doherty really pulled the show together, she is real good actress. Yes, there was bad points with the Piper turning into a werewolf.


Now: 5/21/2006
I don't really miss Prue that much, I believe the show is still good. After eight years, the writers are pretty good at remembering villians and storyline-wise. Alyssa Milano is the producer now, ofcourse star-focused. True, Rose McGowan's acting is still bad, she don't show emotion, the other two are the real pros. I still think Holy can realy carry the show but ofcourse after 8, she must be real tired. She already is. Showing fatigue for some time. The show, people haven't admit deals with alot of different deep themes and complex ideas like all three faking their deaths and having new lives, rebuilding the world with the avatars and a edgier Leo and kids from the future. Now Leo is no show this year and signs showing he might not come back until the final episode (they cheated out with a old Leo in a dreamland). This year, the big villian is two sisters, one they trained and another who was raised by evil. They bring up the fact that how can this be the final villian. Last years was, more essitentically, Brad Kern the producer meant last year to be last and this was a new chance. Yes, there are bad points were fairies, gwomes and all such things but they have been able to keep it balanced.

7th Heaven A Look Back

Back Then: 8/26/1996
A smaltzy drama trying not to be, how can you get kids that want to be devlish and sexy and apart themselves from this sweet can? heh. It's human. Now, supposedly the kids never did anything bad, just their friends. But, ek, they did so much episodes where it was big deal and somebody just scratched a car or something.



Now: Series Finale is May 8. They making it out to be countdown to the end. Their mom must be freaking tired after spealing out seven kids. How is that dog still alive after ten years? I doubt Jessica Biel will be coming for the finale but she... she isn't even a movie star, just like all those who think they are too great for TV, go out to do movies and get squat.

Malcolm in The Middle A Look Back

Premise: A kid genius stuck in a white trash crazy family. His older brother meanwhile chucked over to military school.

Back then: January 19, 2000
It was going to be in the fall season but it went mid-season. Malcolm, Reese, and Dewey did the last-ever Fox Kids fall lineup special. A special that networks do to show all the new cartoons. Networks rarely do it anymore. On the first season, there was Malcolm's teacher-- Caroline Miller (Catherine Burns) was quickly kicked off. Critics say because one of the original writers left, the show fell as well. The first season was more like looking within, like it was all set in the past, that Malcolm was meant to be great.


Now: Series Finale: May 14
It hasn't stopped being funny and being creative. For example, one episode Malcolm formed the opposite of the Prom--the Morp (episode before the last), where freaks and geeks have an anti-prom. And in other episodes, Hal had to convince Dewey to stop smoking. As for the characters, Malcolm has become a sore looser, no longer the smartest pencil. Dewey has become the most talkative and the most whiny. They gained a fifth child--Jamie, a non-talkative wonder tot. The oldest son Frances has gotten married to a Native American Piama (Emy Coligado) and barely gets any screen time. In fact, the actor Christopher Masterson directed an episode. Ironically, his brother and girlfriend's show That 70's show is also saying godbye. One of the episodes that was potient but little mentioned is the Thanksgiving episode that aired November 2003 where Malcolm skips family dinner and ruins a good one by showing up drunk after declining a girl's offer to have sex (she drops a condom on him).

Overall, I love the show. It's smart, funny and an inventive sitcom. It still didn't loose the gleam. It's just, you can't get over that the kids have grown up. Sadly, like much FOX shows, no one will notice it is gone or that it is even still on the air.
