Explaining the title: I am forty-something Latino who has a fondness for the Japanese culture and speak Spanglish--Spanish and English. Some people say "Span-English" so I mixed it with "Engrish," which is how some Japanese pronounce English.

Adam Lambert's sexuality in Entertainment Weekly
Adam Lambert, American Idol's 100th season contestant is on the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly magazine. There is an asterisk on the cover saying "*And not just because he might be gay" and there is an emphasis on his sexuality. The article is written by Mark Harris, who is gay. He says, "Many readers will say 'Why are we even discussing this? Why does it matter whether he's gay or not?' It doesn't. Or rather, it shouldn't. Except that unlike his counterparts, who commodify their lives on their sleeves, Adam isn't talking about it." Why should it matter if he is out and proud? And why isn't he? When people ask about his sexuality, Adam Lambert goes around in circles with the answer, very prepared. Gay contestants are nothing new, but they never won and Clay Aiken never won and he wasn't out at the time. It is interesting that Entertainment Weekly did this article, it is quite brave to do so. Many may criticize it but I applaud them.Saturday, May 3
Unfairness for Girl Celebrities in Same Crimes
Okay, you know how like the media is going crazy about female celebrities and their exploits, that include car accidents, showing bush, naked pics, and arrests... But Entertainment Weekly has brought up a good point. That with young celebrities, male and female, with similar incidents or controversies, girls get it worse. And guys get a pat on the back.
Amateur Nudity
"Vanessa Hudgens apologized after a nude shot hit the Web last year, while Pete Wentz got away with warning fans against taking risque photos after his own pics leaked in 2005." My own take is that on the radio, DJs made fun of Wentz but had a 'boy will be boys' attitude about it, while Hudgens was either applauded by the men and treated as a serious issue by the media. Also, Hudgens is a Disney kid, while Wentz is a 'rock' star, people expect that more, well these days everyone expects things from Disneylings like we do from Catholic School kids.

'Artistic' Nudity
"When Lindsay Lohan re-created a topless Marilyn Monore photo shoot for New York magazine, the website recieved millions of hits but so did her struggling career. Yet frenzied fans snapped up tickets to see Daniel Radcliffe get naked in Equus." The photo didn't help Lohan's already falling career and Radcliffe's photo did raise eyebrows, some were concerned because he was 17 at the time. But like myself, all blogs posted all the pics around.

Edgy Movie Role
"Sundance 2007: Dakota Fanning's Houndog--featuring the actress in a rape scene--bows amid a public outcry and calls for an investigation. Sundance 2008: Audiences shrug off a sex scene in The Wackness that involves Josh Peck of Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh." I never heard of either movies and I am a movie nut! Also, Josh (21) is a little older than Dakota (14) . If his role was involved in a same-sex rape, maybe more concerns would be raised. Or if he was the raper in a rape scene at the age she is now.

Acting out in Public
"Blogs went nuts over video of a slurring Ashlee Simpson at a Canadian McDonald's in 2005, but after Shia LaBeouf was arrested for allegedly refusing to leave a Chicago drugstore in 2007? Lots of talk about his supercute mug shot. Oh, and the charges were dropped." I remember some were concerned about Shia in the media but all in all, right now it is brushed aside. And he does look cute there. As for Ashlee, she is just hated and I don't see anything redeeming her.
I agree, the girls are treated harsher and this should change. yes, I understand some of the situations are the same. My parents says that how the world is, but I believe it should change.

Entertainment Weekly's Oscar Picks eerily correct
Forget if the Oscars will happen, Entertainment Weekly are so finely tuned through the years that they predicted 95% of the nominees.
Best Actor
George Clooney, Michael Clayton
Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood
Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd
Viggo Mortensen, Eastern Promises
Tommy Lee Jones, In the Valley of Elah
They actually picked Ryan Gosling for Lars and the Real Girl, they did mention Tommy Lee Jones. They said: "[He] delivered one of the best performances of is career as the father of a missing soldier, but the fact that the film flopped at the box office was likely killed his chances in this category." Apparently not.
Best Actress
Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Julie Christie, Away From Her
Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose
Laura Linney, The Savages
Ellen Page, Juno
They actually thought Angelina Jolie would get a nod for A Mighty Heart. About Blanchett, they said because of poor critical and commercial reception and not to mention her sure-thing for Supporting Actress could meaning she wouldn't get a nod, but this year, she gets two nods! Page is the youngest in the category, she will be 21 in February 21st.
Best Supporting Actor
Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Charlie Wilson's War
Hal Holbrook, Into the Wild
Tom Wilkinson, Michael Clayton
Casey Affleck, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
They got them all right this time. They said it would be hard to pick a fifth slot in such strong performances, but Casey did get a SAG and Golden Globe nod.
Best Supporting Actress
Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There
Ruby Dee, American Gangster
Saoirse Ronan, Atonement
Amy Ryan, Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton, Michael Clayton
EW picked Catherine Keener for Into the Wild instead of Ronan, but did recognize her.
Best Director
Julian Schnabel, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Jason Reitman, Juno
Tony Gilroy, Michael Clayton
Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men
Paul Thomas Anderson, There Will Be Blood
They picked Sean Penn for Into the Wild and Joe Wright for Atonement. It is a surprise Penn didn't get a nom. And Jason Reitman is a pleasant surprise. They thought them two would be left on the 'cutting room floor.'
Best Picture
Atonement

Same.

Entertainment Weekly strangely connects Saved By The Bell with the Emmys
In this week's Entertainment Weekly, they make the bizarre idea to do a 'six degrees' connecting "Saved By The Bell" with the Emmy awards. They connect the winners, namely. They went from Sally Field to Rachel Griffiths to Peter Krause, who was in the sitcom "Sports Night" with Felicity Huffman. Kiersten Warren, who was in "Saved by the Bell: The College Years," guest starred in "Desperate Housewives" with Felicity. But they connect Kiersten to Lark Voorhies, who only guested once on the short-lived prime-time series. They also went from Ricky Garvais to fellow "The Office" Lucy Davis to Madelline Zima, who they star in "Californication.' Zima was in 'The Nanny' with Nicholle Tom. Nicholle Tom guested on '90210' with Tori Spelling, who played Screech's girlfriend. The strangest connection is from Jaime Pressly to Dustin Diamond. It goes from Jaime Pressly to Giovanni Ribisi, who has guested on "My Name is Earl" and then to Katey Sagal, because Ribisi guest appeared in "Married With Children." Then the most far-fetched connection is from Katey to Ruben Studdard, because he appeared in her show '8 Simple Rules.' Then from Studdard to fellow 'Idol' Kimberly Locke, who appeared in "Celebrity Fit Club" with Diamond. Veyr interesting, but I wondered where all of this started.

Rats in the media on Entertainment Weekly.com
EW.com / Entertainment Weekly Magazine covers the famous rats and mice in movies and other media... but I think they just covered ALL the rats ever to grace the screen. Just when you think they wouldn't include the Great Mouse Detective... they did. I am glad they praised animation cult favorite Mrs. Brisby from the 1982 classic The Secret of NIMH. But they did forget the Rats from the Muppets.Saturday, March 31
Entertainment Weekly's Harry Potter quiz
I just got the April 6th issue of Entertainment Weekly Magazine and took a 50 question or so (there are bonus questions) quiz on Harry Potter. I managed to answer like 39. I'm a moderate Potterphile (not hardcore hardcore but enough to name all the Weasley children), I have read Books 3-6 and just finished the six and have the seventh pre-ordered. There is a 547 % increase in first-day pre-orders on Amazon.com for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows compared to Half-Blood Prince. Not to spoil too much of the quiz, one answer I got wrong was the ingredient needed for the Draught of Living Death and I put Wolfsbane, which fans can tell you is wrong. I got the school crests right, where Harry first kissed Cho Chang right and I knew what numbers were used by Arthur Weasley at the London telephone box for access to the Ministry of Magic. Some of the questions were super hard and there were easy one like what platform does Harry take to go to Hogwarts and to put the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professors in chronological order. The reason I have Ginny above is because she is one of my favorite characters, for sort of obvious reasons fans would know.Tuesday, November 14
Yet another of my TV crushes came out

Out of my crushes of 80's TV Sitcoms, Danny Pinaturo who played Angela's son Johnathan on Who's The Boss and Chad Allen from My Two Dads have revealed they were gay. More recently, T.R. Knight (who doesn't count since I just know him from Grey's Anatomy) and now Niel Patrick Harris and I could have told you that. I suspected it and he has dealt with it wonderfully. Entertainment Weekly has an apt article about how coming out is better these days but unfrotunately there are more people in the closet that out people. And Harris and Knight weren't neccessarly in the closet and have kept your pivate life just that.
So yeah I had such a crush on Harris. Now, who's next? Jeremy Miller?

Desperate Housewives adds another teen hottie
Spoilers for Desperate Housewives Season THREE
From the show (Desperate Housewives) that has served us up the hotties such as bisexual son Shawn Pyfrom, his boyfriend Ryan Carnes, the aforementioned son slept with Bree's boyfriend Lee Tergesen and resident plummer James Denton... here comes 'bad buy' Austin, Edie's 'nephew' played by One on One's Josh Henderson. He just looks sweet, not a bad boy. He says on Entertainment Weekly, "He just stirs up trouble right from the [beginning].." Ofcourse he does! So what does he do? Run over the roses or up chirstmas lights in somebody else's house? Or does he land his mom's boyfriend in the sack?

I been knew James McAvoy

The aforementioned Entertainment Weekly called James McAvoy a 'Fresh Face.' But for me, I have already discovered him way before he played Mr. Tumnus in The Chronicles of Narnia. He was Leto in the Sci-Fi Mini-Series Children of Dune. They mentioned his upcoming films The Last King of Scotland and Becoming Jane.
