Crossovers through different Networks

Last post I covered crossovers on the same network and same night, now I am covering crossovers that happened between different networks. This rarely has happens as networks compete but mostly happens as they are from the same producer.

Fox's Ally McBeal/ABC's The Practice (1998)
Since David E. Kelley ran these two shows and they were both hits, ABC and FOX agreed to cross them over. On the night of April 27, 1998, Ally McBeal‘s episode "The Inmates,” Dylan McDermott appeared and an hour later on ABC, Calista Flockheart and Gil Bellows appeared on "The Practice" episode "Axe Murderer."

WB's Angel/UPN's Buffy (2003)
Buffy was on the WB but then UPN for Seasons 6 and 7 in 2001-2003. Season 3 of Angel and Season 6 of Buffy had no on-screen crossovers but off-screen, which was played with in the comic books (Dawn, Anya and Xander wondered about the Buffy/Angel encounter). While it did NOT happen on the same night and not crossover many characters, the characters did crossover and bridge a recurring character over. Season 4 of Angel episode "Orpheus" aired March 19, 2003 where Alyson Hannigan (Willow) guest starred and took Eliza Dushku (Faith) with her. Faith reappeared on Buffy on Season Seven's episode "Dirty Girls" which aired on April 15, 2003. Though Willow did get a phone call from Fred in the episode "The Lies My Parents Told Me" which aired March 25, six days after "Orpheus" aired so if Buffy fans didn't know about the crossover and found out through the Buffy show itself, then they would've missed the episode. David Boreanaz (Angel) later appeared on "End of Days" and "Chosen" of Buffy on UPN while his show was still airing on the WB.

 John Munch
This character has crossed over networks and genres. He has originated on NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street," (1993-1999) and when that show was canceled, he later moved on to NBC's "Law & Order: SVU." While he was on Homicide he guest starred on Law & Order in 1996 four times. John Munch has been on SVU since it started in 1999. While he was on "Homicide," he appeared in FOX's sci-fi classic "The X-Files" in 1997 with the Lone Gunmen. In 2000, he appeared on UPN's "The Beat", which was canceled in months. In 2005, he appeared on "Law & Order: Trial by Jury" on NBC. He then appeared on FOX's comedy Arrested Development's season three episode "Exit Strategy" in 2006. In 2008, he appeared on HBO's The Wire's episode "Took." He has also made guest appearances on other types of programs like "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "30 Rock" (but as the actor himself Richard Belzer).

30 Rock Live Episode Review

I am in the East Coast, so I only saw the East Coast feed, When I heard 30 Rock was going to be live, I was excited. But I did not realize it would look at this. It is shot differently, like SNL and the regular show is filmed with film, not video, so it is hard to get used to. The sets are also different and there is no natural light. Also, there is applause and laughter, which it is hard to get used to. We even finally get to see sketches on TGS with Tracy Jordan, which was not bad. They were pretty good. The lines sound strange live, with applause. The show works because it has no laughter and it is shot on film. This episode was funny, I just close my eyes and ignore the laughter and imagine it like a regular episode of 30 Rock.

Conan-Leno joke too late in 30 Rock 'Khonani'

Jack has to choose between two women and decides to concentrate on a Janitor situation instead, procrastinating but it is much like he's first situation. Anyhoo, one janitor wanted the night shift because he has a contract with Jack since 2005--clearly like Conan. And the other guy, got his shift moved at 10, like Leno. And in the end, the Conan janitor had to be fired, he said he was okay he had to go to Fox Casino. Um... they should have said TBS. I guess they filmed this before the decision was made.

30 Rock Jenna's Birthday

Jenna has always lied about her age, but tonight there was yet another episode where she has a birthday. I wanted to check if it was in the same month. Last season, it was in the March 5, 2009 episode "Goodbye, My Friend" where everyone gives Jenna's birthday to Tracy. But tonight's episode Jenna suspected her mother forgot her birthday but in reality had a big party for her. It's February 4th, but its excusable since in TV it isn't always the month the episode airs. And they were close in time anyway.

OMG! Cheyenne Jackson on 30 Rock!

Cheyenne Jackson guest starred tonight as Jack 'Danny' Baker on '30 Rock.' He is a famous theater actor now and a great singer, dancer, and performer. He is so sexy and so approachable and is so on this episode. I hope we see more of him!

Eerie but true: Jayden on 30 Rock

Nick Fondulis played Jayden on 30 Rock's episode last night called "Auction Day." My family member that just gave birth on Tuesday, she named her boy Jaiden. The funny part was that she was going to spell it 'Jayden.' My family member's surname is Tyler was going to name the baby so but decided to take the boy's father's last name instead. The eeiry part is that the character's full name is Jayden Michael Tyler. Good she didn't name him Jayden Tyler, the character is crazy. do you know how close the chil came to be being called Jayden Tyler? The child's name end up being Jaiden C. Debose. What could have been right?

Surprise Night Court Reunion in 30 Rock

I wasn't that thrilled about Jennifer Aniston guest-starring on "30 Rock" because I am not much of a Rachel Green fan, but I was very surprised to find out that there was a "Night Court" reunion! I loved "Night Court" growing up and that theme song is so iconic. I was thrilled to find 3 of my favorite actors from that show: Harry Anderson, Markie Post, and Charles Robinson. Even though John Larroquette wasn't there, he was mentioned, that he was too busy.. I was kind of glad he wasn't there. The plot involved the page Kenneth wanting a decent series finale with Harry and Markie's characters marrying each other, all because he is bummed they are changing his work jacket. So Tracy helps make it work. I half expected fake actors playing them and Tracy saying he couldn't get the real actors. The jokes were so funny, especially Markie complaining that she didn't get an Emmy nomination. I think it is freaking awesome that Markie and Charles played husband and wife in There's Somehting About Mary---(oops! My bad! I've been told it was Keith David, another of my favorite African-American actors). The funniest Night Court-related joke was Kenneth freezing in moment like the ending of all of the Night Court episodes. And Aniston wasn't half bad either as a crazy old pal of Liz.

Oprah Rocks 30 Rock

Oprah will be on "30 Rock," she will be playing herself. It is unknown in which manner, if self-deprecating or really herself. She hasn't acted since that awful movie Beloved, she actually provided voices for Bee Movie and Charlotte's Web. She once appeared as 'herself' on Fresh Prince, the lines sounded friendly but she came out like a bitchy Ms. Potts (yes, a fat joke). I heard this news on the radio and the DJs thought it would be funny if she would play a key grip or a coffee girl. I don't think Oprah would let that happen, nor would Fey waste her in such a role. From the quote from the blog below, I think she will be a mediator.

In the Nov. 6 episode, Oprah would play herself in several scenes with Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), and that story line would figure into an ongoing feud between Jenna (Jane Krakowski) and Tracy (Tracy Morgan). "30 Rock" creator Fey had long expressed interest in getting Oprah to appear on her show.

30 Rock wins the Emmy for Best Comedy!

Congrats! Tina Fey said in an interview that like "Arrested Development," that Emmys doesn't mean anything. It is awesome to win, but awards unfortunately don't equal viewers. But I think they have a good chance this season. Tina Fey is funny and had a funny speech. At least 30 Rock won this and also best guest actress.

Tina Fey looked stunning

People like to mention the women from Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives, Tina Fey looked spectacular and was really really funny. She and Julia Louis-Dreyfus got a good response from their sparing. Congrats to Jaime Pressly (Best Supporting Actress for Comedy) and Thomas Haden Church (Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie) for their wins! Pressly deserves it, her character had a great stride last year.

Cute Tina Fey American Express Commercial

There is this new cute Tina Fey commercial that is hilarious. We know the punch line is coming, it is just funny seeing her shuffling around.

30 Rock Review "Fireworks"

The episode was awesome and just as funny, maybe even more funnier if even possible. Will Arnett, my dream came true, played a gay character. Even more, he had a thing for Kevin the page which has a twink factor. Donaghey (Alec Baldwin) tried to use Kevin to find out what his rival was up to. Will Arnett was so funny and sexy, too bad he wasn't shirtless. Jason Sudeikis (new guy from SNL) plays Tina's love interest 'the flower guy' Floyd (ugh, I like him better as 'the flower guy') and he is so hot on the show and I am happy that he and Liz are finally together. They make a cute couple. It is funny how Tina Fey never worked with Alec or Jason before and has such great chemistry with them.

Yay! 30 Rock is back!

I am so happy to finally have 3o Rock back, three weeks are way too long to not have the funny. The Office marathon was fine but I missed them. Now, in tonight's episode funnyman Will Arnett (SNL Amy Poehler's husband) will be on the show. Can't wait. Tina Fey is the most hilarious on the show.

Tina Fey helps Chris Parnell on 30 Rock

Chris Parnell (Above with Eva Langoria) who recently lost his job on SNL scored a cameo on 30 Rock as Dr. Leo Spaceman, a supposed fertility doctor on last Thursday's episode.

Scrubs back! But I can't see it. :( 30 Rock also moves!

NBC wants to bring their Thursday comedy night back, so November 30th they are moving 30 Rock (which I like) to 9:30pm and new episodes of Scrubs to 9pm which is unfair to me because of Grey's Atanomy! Now, you might say 'why skip comedy for drama.' Well if I want to get the DVD boxsets, Scrubs would be a lot cheaper. I didn't miss one ep of Scrubs last year when they were double upped in Mid-Season in Tuesday. Please, NBC re-consider!

30 Rock Review

It has been four days since 30 Rock has first aired on Wednesday at 8pm on NBC, Saturday Night Live's Tina Fey created it and has been known as the second Live Sketch Show comedy show. But it is the best. Not boring like the other one Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Tina Fey plays Liz Lemon, she could have named her character Liz Lemon. Jane Krakowski plays Liz's friend who is the star of the sketch show The Girlie Show but they have no chemistry in it. The show is funny and smart but Alec Bladwin is palying it too straight. He plays the tyrannt development head that makes radical changes while Tracy Morgan is as scary as ever as a Martin Lawrence-type. I feel for Liz but I hope she is more on top in the coming episodes.

Kick in the balls: Rob Riggle super employed

You might have heard because of budget cuts Horatio Sanz and Finesse Mitchell, Chris Parnell and Rachel Dratch are out of Saturday Night Live. Yet, 'who's that?' unibrow king Rob Riggle is staying and even appearing on The Daily Show! I saw him on the September 20th episode. It seems that he is only staying on SNL because he was in the same Improv group as Amy Poehler.

Also, since Tina Fey won't be on the show anymore for Weekend Update, Seth Meyers will co-anchor with Amy Poehler though he won't be able to do anymore sketches. Aww. I'll miss his fine ass.

Looking Forward to the new Fall Schedule

As a child I was always exicted to hear the new Fall Schedule, there were always shows I liked that quickly got canceled: Chris Elliot's "Get a Life" and that one that was set after the apocloypse and only a handful of people were left on Earth---both on FOX. Still happening, shows I loved get canceled from FOX: Wonderfalls and Arrested Development. Shows I have been excited about the past few seasons were 24, Medium, and Lost. This season not much shows look interesting but two do... 30 Rock (a comedy about behind-the-scenes of a sketch comedy show), Tina Fey's brainchild with SNL alum Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin. Also, similar premise Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip with a great cast including Matthew Perry, Wings' Steven Weber, West Wing's Bradley Whitford, The Whole Nine Yard's Amanda Peet, and The Daily Show's Nathan Codry.
