Dollhouse Epitaph Two Episode Review

No Spoilers
A brilliant and entertaining series finale, it is explosive and passionate, very emotional. There are some sore spots and some parts that anger. Those that didn't see "Epitaph One," which is only available in Season One DVD. The recap was very short and made no sense. Poor Ballard gets stepped on for the whole episode. Zone and Mag from the DVD episode are cool and true to how they were in that episode, but if you didn't see it, you would confused to who they are and their story. There are some surprises when it comes to Pyria and Tony. Maurissa Tancharoen, who co-wrote the episode with her husband Nate Whedon, gets a part as one of the freedom fighters. Nate Dushku, Eliza's brother, gets a cameo early in the episode as a bad guy. Former model Christian Monzon also plays Romeo, another freedom fighter.

Dollhouse Series Finale Tonight

Don't forget! The Series Finale of Dollhouse airs tonight at 8pm on FOX! It is a continuation of the special DVD episode "Epitaph One." Yes, the show has been canceled but at least FOX has aired all the episodes, well except for Epitaph One of course.

Dollhouse "Epitaph One" Review

Epitaph One
FOX counted the pilot as the 13th episode of the first season of Dollhouse. In order to give a 13th episode for the DVD's, international broadcasts, and for repeats. All shows have to have 13 or 22 episodes. Well except for the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Anyhoo, Joss used little budget to set an episode ten years after the first season in the future. So it is set in a post-apocolyptic future where anyone can be 'programmed' without having to had been an Active with a press of a button. So there are very few that are imprinted, those that are still themselves, are called "Actuals." Written by Joss' brother Jed and Jed's wife, actress Maurissa Tancharoen. This episode did not air on FOX and did not involve most of the cast.

Felicia Day (of the Dr. Horrible's Sing-along blog fame) and Zack Ward (of "Titus") star as Actuals who hide out and find the show's dollhouse, without knowing what it is and discover it is the source of all their trouble. They then encounter Whiskey (Amy Acker), a doll who was once imprinted as Dr. Saunders. Amy Acker is very important in this episode. She hasn't appeared yet in Season 2 but I hope they wrap that in a nice bow with a good reason. There are 'flashbacks' and 'flashfowards' in this episode, very important and fascinating episodes. I've been watching season 2 of "Dollhouse" and I am glad I saw this now when I did because it makes more sense. They have a flashforward where Paul is Echo's handlerer and has a headache, which conincides with season 2 ep "Meet Jane Doe." For fans and non-dollhouse but Whedon fans, should definitely watch this! It's a great stand-alone and deep-mythology episode. There are common Whedonesque plot twists but very welcomed.

In Jan 22, the 13th ep of season 2 airs "Epitaph Two: The Return," I hope it does air because news is that the show has been canceled by FOX.

Dollhouse Pilot Review

I saw the Dollhouse pilot on the season one DVD. Having being a fan, seeing all the episodes, also season two, I understand why Joss Whedon decided to re-do the pilot and shoot a new 1st episode. The pilot is confusing, only understandable about fans. It is like chess pieces, some pieces are ahead of others. Joss probably wanted to go in another direction, he pulled things back and pushed things forward. The pilot shows off as a showcase to Eliza, but not much of a conscious one to a new viewer. Also, certain rules have changed and they were feeling things out as they went along.

For example, in the pilot, Paul Ballard is only getting started. We are revealed in the pilot that Victor was programmed to trick Ballard, but it took about five or so episodes to reveal it in season 1. Echo is actively programmed to kill Paul in the pilot, but not so in the first episode. Things with dr. Saunders are pushed forward in the pilot and pulled back in the series, spread out. Also, Sierra is already an Active in the pilot but is a 'new' Active in the first episode. The first final episode is more polished and better to understand.

Dollhouse faux paus

Dollhouse is getting better, last week's episode was awesome with Summer Glau as the guest. This week's episode they made a faux paus, where Echo says in Spanish "Ocho minutos" which means Eight Minutes but the subtitle says four minutes. We finally saw Echo in her more human, she is determined in taking down the dollhouse with Paul. While Adelle is no longer in control of her branch and feeling small due to the new regime. Echo meanwhile tries to save an illegal immigrant from prison.

Good Dollhouse Season 2 Episode

"Belonging"
Fourth Episode of Season 2, great episode! It was written by actress/writer Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon (Joss' brother). It was a Sierra episode, an origin story and guest starred the sexy and talented Vincent Ventresca ("Invisible Man"). It tells the story of an Australian artist Priya, picked up and seduced by a rich doctor (Ventresca) and she rebuked his advances. He set up an art gallery show with a bunch of dolls, since he was the friend of the owner of the Dollhouse. He couldn't have her so he drugged her to make her seem crazy, put her in an insane asylum. She was then turned into a doll named Sierra. So the doctor kept engaging with her, the only one to take her as a doll. Basically raping her. And Topher gets his first moral dilemma. Well, watch the full episode on FOX.com.

Dollhouse Episode One Review

When I first heard Eliza Dushku (the only woman I lusted for, Faith the Vampire Slayer is my favorite) was teaming up with Joss Whedon, who hasn't been on television since 2004, I was worried. Worried that television network execs would stiffle the brilliant Whedon once again and cancel the show. Re-shooting the pilot and having it on dead-slot Friday with the walking dead show "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" were not good signs. Even during the two shows on the premiere night, they had Whedonian women Summer Glau (River from "Firefly") and Eliza Dushku host the night and promise to be 'strong' and 'sexy' women and that Friday would be 'date night.' Felt very transparent and cheesy. The show itself had multiple commercial breaks that either lasted 60 or 90 seconds with Eliza nude in the bumpers.

The show itself, I felt like I wanted more when it was over. The show was worth the re-shoots, even though there is Whedonian dialouge, especially when it comes to the character of Topher (Fran Kranz) but it slowly starts to feel like a completely different universe. Topher might seem like a geek but there is always more than meets the eye in the Whedon universe, he seems creepy and evil to me, even by the first episode. According to Joss, he made the decision to do the re-shoots because he was imnersing himself in the world, which he always does and decided to serve more of a template. "Dollhouse" is about a secret underground organization that takes people they call "Actives" and erase all their personality and imprint them with a new one depending on a case on case basis for their cilents, such as a negotiator, bounty hunter, sexy date, etc. This show is to meant to show Eliza's talents as an actress but some are concerned if the audience will tune in every week to see a new character but I don't think that will be a problem.

Amy Adams (Fred on "Angel") is also in the show, in a much more serious role and different voice tone than Fred Burkle but seeing her with Eliza still felt like Faith and Fred. Of course, this show has to have a male romantic interest for Echo and it is the form of dectective Paul Ballard (Battlestar Galacta's Tahmoh Penikett), who is a hopeless hero whose bosses don't believe about the Dollhouse but he won't give up. And Echo has a father-figure who cares about him like Boyd Langdon (Harry Lennix from "24"). On VH1's "Best Week Ever," Joss Whedon came on with Eliza Dushku and were pushed to spill spoilers for "Dollhouse" and did reveal that, "Buffy and Angel crossover with the Terminator." And then said something else impossible. It was hiliarious. The host then got 're-programmed.'
