Aliens in America Episode 10 Review

Aliens in America Season 1 Episode 10
"Church"
December 10, 2007

In this Christmas-themed episode, it is smartly about church and going to church and Christ. In most TV Christmas specials on sitcoms that is no mention of Jesus Christ, sometimes just alluded to but not completely. When Raja notices the Tolchuck 's weekly ritual instead of church is going to mall and mentions it to the mom Franny, she takes this seriously. She takes it personally and reflects on her life because she used to be really religious. So they decide to go back to church and find the church she married in has been turned into a chicken place. The father, Gary, being king consumer guy orders lots of chicken and then when they join a 'mega church,' he gets consumed in consumerism.

I like this show because even though how 'far out' they try to be, they are realistic and show American life in actuality in these modern days. For on, most American families don't even attend church. And some try going and go occasionally, like this one. This one tried going again. Raja is religious and always the man of wisdom. What I like about the main character/narrator Justin is how ignorant or dumb he is. It is perfect foil for Raja. They should keep Justin how he is. He is a perfect character. He tries praying for his own selfish wants, like getting a teacher sick (it happens) and having sex with a hot girl, which he gets in a feud with his friend in an opportunistic gamble. He plans to pray for him to get the girl. What I don't like about Raja is that he is all high and mighty and stuck up, but it works in this episode, his scolding of Justin of immortality of using praying for his own selfish needs, it runned over with narration. Which works just fine.

In another just as good storyline, Claire gets her first episode wish for birth control pills on Christmas. She is not sexually active but these days, lots of teenage virgins take the precaution. Franny drags her into a group for not having sex and ends up making out with a cute guy got wrangled with the promise of his own car. But surprise to Franny Gary, Claire actually gets into church and on Christmas day, she plan to go by herself but is surprised Claire joins along. One funny part that maybe passed by people's faces was when Raja admitted he thought Santa was Jesus got fat because of American culture. It is an awesome episode and great Christmas treat... a surprise.

The Future of the Power Rangers

In 2002, Disney acquired the rights to the Power Rangers and with that, the rights to adapt the source of the series--Super Sentai from the Toei Company in Japan. Since Power Rangers have still been on the air since 1993, fans were not exactly happy with what Disney was doing with the series. One fact is that Disney's contract with Toei is ending this year. There is a rumor circulating that Disney is planning to stop production with the live-action series and might go animated. There is a large possibility this might come true.

Disney (in general) has not had many fans in the past few years for any of their decisions. Thus going animated with the Power Rangers is not a surprise. Along with the rumor, there is another that the animated series will based on the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," supposedly in hopes of capturing old fans. Since 1996, Power Rangers have followed its source Super Sentai in changing theme, title, plot, and cast each year. Super Sentai is an ongoing franchise since 1975 and has recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. If Disney does choose to go animated, then the newest Super Sentai series won't be adapted to English. This week, pictures of the 2008 series have been revealed.

Gouonger or Go-On Ranger has received mix-reviews like 2007's Gekiranger, which is now being adapted into "Power Rangers Jungle Fury." One main reasons the designs of Gekiranger got mix-reviews was that they have no belts, which is a Sentai mainstay. Some fans are happy and some others are calling the costumes and robots of Go-onger goofy and garish. And some joke 'No wonder Disney dropped out.' But this was a long time coming for them to leave because of their contact. Power Ranger fans are notorious for freaking out before anything happens, they have been called worse than Star Trek, and comic book fans all put together. Very often, fans see a new sentai and think it won't get adapted and it does get adopted regardless. I am proudly one of them. hee hee. My family and friends call me obsessed. I for one, I am excited to go what will be the result of all of this.

Updated December 15 2007:
PrometheusUFO reports a 10-minute animated pilot has been produced. It is said to be called "Power Rangers Morphin' Heroes." There are rumors the animaed series will be just a year and it might go back to live-action. Which makes both PrometheusUFO and I happy that they will definitely have more time to plot out the storyline for the 2009 season from the Japanese source. But it could be they skip Gouonger all together and adapt Sentai 2009 for 2010 and end up the same way. Lemme explain, we fans don't like the squeeze PR producers have to go through by adapting the Japanese footage and their whole series feels so squished. It doesn't help that Disney has reduced 40 episodes to 32 episodes. Super Sentai series since 1998 have had 50 episodes and were merely reduced to 49 in 2005.

Kid Nation: Sofia In Charge

People called it a dictatorship. People think she is out of control and drunk with power. Sofia, who earlier have challenged the Counsel. Even comparing the four boy counsel to Nazis and cursing at Guylan (from a previous incarnation of the counsel--he even seems to still be bearing a grudge against her). Sofia even feared the future of the town in the hands of Greg and Blaine, but to her surprise, they trusted her to put everything in her hands. They put everything on her shoulders as the sheriff. She says, "I haven't gotten any crap because I haven't given anyone crap." She is a great leader, I think she is more than qualified, she has a good head on her shoulders. The counsel worried if she could handle it but Greg really think she can handle it. I find the whole thing funny, it wasn't what they expected. That she didn't trust the new counsel and then she was trusted by them. The kids were scared of her rule but then they grew to accept her. She said she thinks Alpacas are a combination between sheep and giraffe... it's actually true. They are also sort of related to llamas.

Everyone made a big deal about not having the counsel but that particular counsel is new, also lots of the other kids were counsel leaders. Red had two--Mike and Guylan, relied on Mike; Yellow had Zack and Taylor--they relief on Zack; Blue--they had Anjay, but relied on Migle. So they weren't alone. I think she chose the hot air balloons other than the eternal monument to make everyone happy and make good with them. When everyone had to vote for gold stars. Now, somewhere wanted to vote for them. Jared wanted to nominate himself. He was scary before, said strange things but he started making sense. I do feel for Zack but he shouldn't let that get to him. Those guys were just being jerks and it was funny they weren't expecting that. The ironic part is that Zack was part of the counsel and when he was, a bit of jerk and haughty, power gets to your head. I think being in the counsel changed all of them for the worse. Luckily some turned around like Laurel. (She a little bit of corruption)

Now, any of the people from Kid Nation might read this... I don't think I am smarter than you guys or anything. Just writing my opinion on this thing. Life is about learning, growing and understanding. So you guys did just did.

Beauty and The Geek Season 4 Finale Review

I think the reason Sam won so many challenges is obvious. I think it is unfair to say it is because he is a man. But he is much more braver and outrageous and physically inept to the beauty girls, who were the quintessential stereotypes. Acting meek and not so courageous. Some challenges were more physical than previous seasons. Like the Aztec temple one and the one with the snakes and such.

You could tell that Rebbecca digs Sam way more than he does. I am not saying that he is not interested her but she was all over him and he is aloof. Rebbecca is one smart cookie too. It was hilarious when Will called Nicole's tactics to 'play' Sam, Will, and Rebbecca. That was hysterical. I loved when they spill those beans in the show, awesome.

I am glad they didn't focus that much on the drama between William and Jen. They did lightly touch on it. Because it was done to death. Luke was so cute when he said he was getting 3 to 4 dates a week. No surprise to Josh's transformation and girlfriend. It was funny he was shy to take off his shirt and asked Sam how he does it. You know, I found Jasmine annoying before but now, she is endearing.

I voted for Dave and Jasmine.

It is not that Sam and Nicole didn't transform, but they shouldn't have won just for being the first team. Dave and Jasmine really turned around and deserved it. They were the underdogs.
