Gilmore Girls Proper Send-Off

I was on vacation and out of nowhere, little did I suspect 'Gilmore Girls' was going to have a series finale. I was shocked to say the least. I wasn't really keeping track of the show because the new episodes were showing sporadically, unlike 'Lost' and 'Grey's Anatomy.' 'Gilmore Girls' has been a great show, even though it has not been up to par in the past few years, even with Amy Sherman-Palladino, but every hit shows goes through that. There has been plenty of memorable moments this year (Rory and Logan's rocket, Lane's babies being born). It was actually no surprise they were calling it quits because rumors about Lauren Graham and Alexis Biedel's contracts being up and mixed feelings about Amy being fired. When the series finale was airing, I was thinking about why Amy didn't do it but Lauren says in a interview that it wasn't her way to write and direct the finale, she would have had wanted to be in it 100%.

The series finale was actually satisfying. Fans complained that you didn't feel closure. The cast even says that they didn't know if it was the series finale or not. I think the episode topic dealt with the feelings everyone was feeling about it being 'too soon and loss and not enough time.' There were plenty of great moments like Rory and Lane's goodbye and so forth. If you didn't see it, it was about Rory being employed as an intern to travel on the campaign bus of Obama. So Lorelai and Rory's planned trip to check out all the rollercosters around the country was canceled. Loreali ofcourse was crushed and held it in. A planned college graduation party by the whole town of Stars Hallow was canceled so Luke took charge of a last minute farewell party, even under rain. So, everyone feels Lorelai and Luke's relationship was left on hinges but I think it was perfect how they did it. How would have the fans felt if their relationship was rushed and got married all in one episode? It wouldn't be the 'Gilmore Girls.' So in the end of the episode, they zoomed out from Luke's Diner as a homage to the first episode.

Positive Female Role Models on TV

About ten years ago, a surge of young female protagonists on television started emerging. There was a serious lack of them and even with more shows starring women, not all of them were taken so positive ('Ally McBeal' comes to mind in the sense that nobody thought she was great for feminism, evidence by 'Time' Magazine). There was 'Clueless' (which switched from ABC to UPN), 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' (ABC to the WB), 'Daria' (MTV), 'Moesha' (UPN), 'Sister Sister' (ABC to WB), Dawson's Creek (the WB), and of course 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (WB to UPN). I am not saying those were all positive either. What I am talking about specifically is positive role models for young girls.

Now, why I am talking about this is because I have noticed that we are sort of dry in that department. CBS has 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' and 'How I Met your Mother' that are more adult fare but have female pragmatists none the less and not treated as victims or someone's mom (well technically for the latter). FOX has none basically and even The O.C.'s women couldn't be consider at all role models or positive. It could be said that Tina Fey is a positive protagonist in '30 Rock' on NBC but I am not sure if she would like to be considered a role model. 'Medium' is a great series too, a working mother who saves people and solves crimes. The CW, much as its predecessors the WB and UPN, they have female-headed series such as 'Gilmore Girls,' 'Veronica Mars,' 'Girlfriends' and so on. I would totally say that the negative is 'One Tree Hill' that has more cat fights and skanks than 'Dawson's Creek.' Finally we get to ABC, which has a boat load of women but they do walk the fine line that Ally McBeal took. The women in 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Grey's Atanomy' can be considered independent and sexuality liberated but of course in this country, that is not considered all well and good.

As for 'Veronica Mars,' I am not in the camp that considers it the next 'Buffy' but it is still a work in progress series even in its third season. Veronica, herself as a character, comes off more annoying and stuck up than Buffy-trademark wit that I see her emulating at times. It is still about a teenage heroine which is a good. More shows like these people and less Laguna Bitches. Don't even get me started on gay-protagonist shows! 'The L Word' is great but it is not on a network. And 'Brothers and Sisters' is the next step. But where is our 'Will & Grace' successor?

Poor Lauren Graham shelling for movie where she has a small role

Lauren Graham is in the upcoming Diane Keaton vehicle Because I Say So with Mandy Moore and has a minor role as scenery. And I guess they forced her to shell out for the movie during breaks of her show 'Gilmore Girls'. Isn't it enough that TV actors are in the movies that they have remind us during the show?

Gilmore Girls: Always gonna blow up

On Gilmore Girls tuesday, we knew once Rory found out her new bubbly friend Lucy was going out with Marty, the 'nude guy' from Rory's freshman year, that everything was going to go done hill. So Lane has been replaced with eccentric friends (Lucy and Olivia) to make a love quad and ruin things further for Rory and Logan. Logan reveals the truth in front of everyone which is something I would do and have done. Rory finds it obnoxious and Lucy gets upset at Rory and Marty when Marty started it all. In this episode Rory and Loreali's realtionships get bad. Ball-less Christopher and Logan are jealous of the former man (Christopher and Luke ending up in a siulent animalistic brawl busting out their anger) and spout everything in front of a group of people. When Rory went to apologize, Olivia closed the door on her. Olivia and Lucy are bitches, they don't understand Rory. They suck!

Gilmore Girls: Go Christopher!

Yes I am a Lorelai/Luke shipper but it seems Christopher, who I have always liked but then started to dislike two years ago when he got drunk and fought with Luke. But now he is really winning me over and is hot as ever. Oh David Sutcliffe... he had an TV Guide interview with queer buddy Michael Ausiello at a CW green carpet party and he said he was aware of the people who didn't like him but he hoped to win people over.

Rating the new guy-- David S. Rosenthal

It is time to rate David S. Rosenthal, the new Excuetive Producer of the Gilmore Girls. With the season premiere of Season 7, let's first say I tried to go in with an open mind and forget thaere is a new guy calling the shots. Especially a guy instead of a woman, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Charmed went through a similar change and I think it got better. But in this case, I don't think anyone can replace her wit and smarts. But the show has declined a bit, especially Season 4-6.

So far Rosenthal has been able to capture the chatty-chatness of the girls. Even when they try not to talk, it is hiralous. But unfortuantely it comes out like he is trying too hard. Also, the plots seem to get better and feel like its comes full circle. What past seasons suffered of the slow-moving pace and basically nothing really happened or coming full circle. Things happened but it was like they just happened. In the premiere, Logan leaves Rory with a rocket prop. She hiralously tries to figure out why he sent it to her and later finds out it is from an episode of the Twlight Zone ("The Long Morrow") to be the most romantic gesture over. Also the local nut Taylor installs a camera to catch people passing the red light and ofcourse, it is in front of Luke's diner. To 'christen' it, local cutie/wierdo Kirk to test it out, he smashes Luke's big window with his car. Loreali ends it with Luke and doesn't tell him way until later and everyone else is puzzled.

In the second episode, Luke immediately punches Chris in the face after being told by Loreali that she slept with him and she has yet to tell Rory that she slept with her father. The only one that she had told to is Sookie who she explains to that she told Luke. In the breaks, some Dove girls talk about the episode but don't really add nothing to the story, seem like they have been forced to talk about themselves. As for the episode itself, Zack and Lane has come back from their honeymoon in Mexico which seemed to suck. Lane still looks a little girl, even though she is twenty year old wife. Lane tells Rory is horrible and believes it is all a conspiracy, which Rory knows it really isn't when she is sort of an expert. Lane only tired once (outside on a dirty crab-infested beach) and already want sto give up. In the 2nd ep much like Sherman-Palladino, Rosenthal has Luke and Rory clash with each other on the street. Uh-Oh moment is when Chris lives a message on the machine and Rori hears it leaving a huge gap in their newly refound goo-gooey realtionship. Rory quickly punishes her and keeps on repeating 'You slept with Dad.' Another bombshell is given near the end of the ep. Rory even bites her tounge (she doesn't admit it but you can see it in her face).

The characters seem all the same--Luke's annoying brother-in-law T.J. and the goofy neighbors like Babette and Miss Patty. Weirdly enough, Sookie's dialouge seems a bit different, slower and stiffer maybe probably Rosenthal and Rebecca Rand Kirshner haven't prefected it yet. Rebecca is one of my fav writers from Buffy and really has found her stride since she joining last year. Funny enough Loreali's parents still haven't appeared yet. Like much Gilmore Girls episdoes, the bloated cast can't appear in every episode. In the first, almost the whole cast appears for Lane and the grandparents.

Kudos to Rosenthal.... so far.

Milo Ventimiglia replaces Sly's son in 'Rocky Balboa'

The new Rocky movie is coming this Winter Holiday and it is called Rocky Balboa, it has been 16 years since its last movie Rocky V and thirty years before the first one was released. The plot is that Rocky comes out of retirement when he sees a computer simulation betwen him and current champion Mason 'The Line' Dixon played by former lightweight thirty-eight year old champion Antonio Tarver.

Now, I ntoiced that Milo Ventimiglia (the revolting Jessie from Gilmore Girls) will be playing Rocky's son in the movie. It turns out, Sly's real son Sage Stallone (who was in Rocky V) turned down the chance to reprise the role of Rocky Jr. due to prior obligations with Grindhouse Releasing, a film corporation he started in 1996 at 20 years old. The Los Angeles based company, dedicated to the restoration and preservation of quality exploitation films. Funny enough, Milo is only a year younger than Sage.

Gilmore Girls: Producers won't be along for next year

TVGuide Magazine has an exclusive interview with Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator and Dan Palladino, executive producer of Gilmore Girls and they state that they did not quit but they will not be in charge next year when Gilmore Girls moves to CW. What happened was that they wanted a two-year deal but the studio only offered them one year and the cast are only committed for a year. There were alot of other issues, the fact is that next year will not be coming from the creator's mind, sadly. The season finale is next week.

Gilmore Girls: Lane got married!!

Lane, Rory's bestfriend got married with her boyfriend Zack in Tuesday Night's episode "I get a sidekick out of you" written by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. I didn't see the whole episode but what I did see was good. We all found out Lane's strict mother has another even stricter mother that has been hiding her Seventh Day Adventist-ness (my uncle is and I seen a wedding). They ended up two seperate weddings. One at home for the buddhists and one at church. Lorealai ended up taking Rory's husband while she Luke was out.

For those who don't know, Lane has been 'going out' with Zack for the past two years. They were in the same band and suddenly started dating or tried it. He is a caring, awkward, senstitive fellow. I am glad they are taking the character to new steps and they probably did this to get a wedding knock out of the park before the season finale.

Greg Cipes: The Voice of Beast Boy

Okay, I felt like doing a theme. This is the guy who does the voice of Beast Boy on Teen Titans, Caleb on W.I.T.C.H., Chiro of (strange that the show is still on) Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! and English voice of AstroBoy. In the flesh on One on One as Butter? Wierd. Haven't seen the show. Also Miles Anderson on Deadwood, guest spot as a crazy headbanger on Gilmore Girls.

He did modeling of course.

He was also in Ring of Darkness, one of those David DeCoteau -- horror movies with softcore guys.



He has done a ton of commercials but as of late, Playstation's Downhill Domination where a biker falls on a family's winshield and Holiday Inn Express where extremers get shock to find out their helicopter pilot isn't really a pilot.

Six Degrees of Whedonverse: Slither/Gunn Brothers

It is no secret to my friends that I love Buffy, Angel and Firefly, the creations from the mastermind Joss Whedon, who fans call the Whedonverse. Well the new zombie movie Slither is directed by James Gunn (right), who was the inspiration for the Angel character Gunn's name. He is the brother of Sean Gunn (left) who plays Kirk on the Gilmore Girls.

And Nathan Fillion (Firefly/Serenity) is in Slither. Well, that was like four degrees.
