Sex and the City 2 Review

Camp, stereotypes, big fashion, beautiful scenery, drama and drama and just over the top, all you expect from Sex and the City and for good cause. I went in looking for a good time and got it. Some fans might feel disappointed or not satisfied, but I was. The movie is just plain predictable but it is from the women we love. There are gay stereotypes a plenty but all the hot men compensate for it. It is 2 hours and a half, I could have done without all the Big/Carrie melodrama and Samantha complaining about her hot flashes. The movie starts with the City, which we do see a bit of... it isn't all desert, the girls are in NYC for like 45 minutes. Carrie serves us a flashback to the girls in the 80's in horrible outfits, only Samantha looked fitting. Then we are served the wedding of Stanford and Anthony (Mario Cantone).

The wedding is fun and they get to spend time with it. They go to Abu Dhabi (a.k.a. Moracco) because Samantha was offered a business deal by a rich benefactor to Smith's new movie. We barely see Smith (Jason Lewis) as he cameos. Actually, we barely see any of the Girls' men. The dilemmas the girls have in the movie are the following: Carrie fears being a run-of-the-mill marriage as Big just likes to get take out, lay on the couch and watch TV and she wants 'sparkle'; Charlotte fears her husband might be into her young babysitter with no bra; Miranda is being snubbed by a jackass of a boss and quits; and Samantha is finally the sex hound we all know and love--she didn't get to romp around last movie but this time she does! Oh, her problem? Menopause. So we all know Carrie meets Aidan on vacation and they go out to dinner, and Carrie is tempted to maybe cheat, Charlotte warns her to not play with fire.

So independent sexual women plopped into the middle east? Conflict? Yes, plenty but in an almost cartoonish fashion. It is all predictable, but fun. Even though the girls do try to 'respect' the culture, they do 'disrepect' it at every turn. The fun of watching in the theater with a bunch of women, they all reacted at the same time. When we see women in burka/bikinis, they groan. When Carrie kisses someone, they go 'oh no.' And when Samantha is showing off condoms to angry middle eastern men? They scream 'hell yeah.' I was a little pissed off (and it was funny) when a gentleman (clearly a straight man date dragged there) asked me and my girlfriends to 'stop chatting.' I told him 'yeah' sarcastically. I WAS LIKE, YOU CAME TO THE WRONG MOVIE. Everyone was chatting. And he then continued to chat with his wife and laughing loud. We just moved down a seat from the clueless man. Carrie would not stand for that. Samantha would have sat with a big hat in front of him and laughed really loud.

As for the fashion... WHAT WAS UP WITH CARRIE WITH THE FREAKING FOUR-LEAF CLOVER NECKLACE? She would always have it on! Pretty much everytime she was in America, she never wore it on vacation and went back to it after she came back. Also, a nice touch was that when Carrie went to see Aidan, she put on dark eyeliner and a crescent moon necklace---symbolizing transition. All of Charolete's outfits were over the top and ugly. A cute scene included Big being hit on by a gay version of himself at the wedding. Cameos included Miley Cyrus, Liza Minnelli, Penolepe Cruz and Tim Gunn. Nudity includes the bare asses of Noah Mills (as Anthony's brother Niki) and Max Ryan (as a dutch dude) -- both conquests of Samantha. Also the nipples (through clothing) of Charolete's daughters' nanny, plus plenty of banana hammocks (bulges and a boner).

I don't like how in the end, the heronie has to be 'punished,' even if jokingly, by a man. That if makes one wrong move and she has to conform to something she doesn't like doing (wearing diamond ring). I wish the girls were stronger when it came to important stuff, but they are only strong and in control when it comes to superfluous consumerism. When they are asked to pack in a hour and have to deal with 'bad men,' they act like chickens with their heads cut off.

And the guy who hit on Big I think was Michael T. Weiss, a.k.a. 'The Pretender,' it was a sci-fi show on NBC in the late 90's.

Sex and the City Movie Was Not a Fluke

Attention movie producers! This comes from a white male between the ages of 18 and 30, you should make more woman's movies! Sex and the City the Movie was not a fluke. Nia Vardalos went on "The View" and mentioned that movie producers now no longer want to make women's movies or 'chick flicks' because they say that women don't go to the movies on Fridays. Barbara Walters then encouraged girls to tell their men on date nights that they are going to see their movie. The reason the first female-driven blockbuster is an important milestone is because there has been a long history of male-driven superhero movies, action flicks, and monster explosions. It's time for Change. Sex and the City the Movie was not a fluke, if you make it, women will come!!!

Sex and the City Movie DVD Review

Yes, Yes, I know that the movie is old news and I should have seen the movie when it came out. But I was to see the movie with my ex-boyfriend and we didn't and we broke up and I ended up going to other movies with other friends. And then it was gone and then on DVD, so I rent it (inside joke intended). I expected a over-extended episode, instead got served a long long movie. I love it, it's good, but it does drag a bit. Our girls go through tired-and-true old storylines... getting dumped on the altar, being cheated on and separating, getting pregnant and thinking of cheating, but it is all served up with history and it's our girls! Carrie and Big have been through everything and the movie does speak true to their relationship and both characters, as best as they can. It is a bit predictable movie, but just put around in other orders.

For those who haven't seen it or have forgotten it, here is the basic plot: Carrie and Big pick an apartment to live with each other and plan to get married. Miranda, my favorite character, is cheated on by Steve and she separates from him and moves to another apartment. Samantha is living in California and feeling the pangs of being Smith's agent and barely see each other, with her flying to New York to see her friends and him busy at work. Before the wedding, Miranda is met by Steve and gets distraught and tells Big they are crazy for getting married. It was little but it hit him. She doesn't tell this to Carrie until six months later and starts talking to Carrie, forgive me forgive me, I didn't mean it, just like what Steve told her and doesn't see the similarities. I love Miranda, one of my favorite characters, even though this is a side of her, i don't think the movie shows her in the right light.

Anyhoo, Carrie goes through all the pains after being dumped and after that, gets an assistant, Jennifer Hudson. She is a light in the movie, even though she enters half-way in the movie and only interacts with Carrie, the movie really is about friendship between women. As for the other storylines, After her best friends get dumped, Charolette is a mess when she finds out she is pregnant for the first time and frets the worse. Samantha lusts over a hot guy next door and is tempted to cheat. What guy would make her cheat on hunky blonde blue eye sweetheart Smith who shaved his head when she went into chemo? An European hunk. Well, it doesn't matter, she doesn't cheat, which is great, I was happy that didn't happen. Somethings feel like filler like Charolette fearing jogging when pregnant and Samantha's humpy dog, but they do feel like things from the show. It is good.

There is plenty of Steve and Big, but not much of Henry, Charolette's husband and the gay friends Stanford and Anthony. They kiss on New Year's Eve and it was spoken about a lot but there wasn't ever really much build up to it. People who never seen the show, wouldn't have known they hated each other. Anyhoo, it's not Gays and the City. My 18-year-old niece never saw the show but loved the movie and cried at the end of it. In reality, this movie is the ultimate chick flick, the mother of all chick flicks, what is great great about chick flicks. DVD extras? not much, it would have been nice to have a featurette or something. Commentary? yes, at least! God!

Sex and the City Movie maybe the first female blockbuster

For all those naysayers, might not think Sex and the City is a big deal or that it is being hyped, but I actually think it is a good thing the movie is being hyped. It is beyond the weirdness that it is making such a fuss. It has surprised the stars, producers and even backers. Sex and the City premieres all over the country on May 30th and women and men are expected to make big lines for this movie. The reason the first female-driven blockbuster is an important milestone is because there has been a long history of male-driven superhero movies, action flicks, and monster explosions. It's time for Change. heh.

Sex and the Talkie

I love "Sex and the City" as much as every other gay guy, now that the Sex and The City movie is in the works, I must ask, why? What is there left hanging? But really thinking about it, a female-leaded rated R comedy motion picture would be really great and revolutionary. And they can get more down and dirty than the television series. But I don't know how they will be ever to do this plotline wise if most of the characters are attached and not single and swinging like in the beginning of the show. Well, we all know that hasn't stop them before.
