Three Years to go and Mattel releases Hoverboard!

In 2006, I mentioned how the hoverboard from Back to the Future II was nine years away and now oh my god, it is only three years away. Main character Marty McFly travels to 2015 and borrows a girl's hover board from Mattel. So now Mattel really is creating one for 2012 but it doesn't really hover. But some guys did make a project to make an actual hoverboard, it does hover but like an inch off the ground and doesn't take any passengers. Well, that is an accomplishment as we still don't have colonies on the moon, flying cars, or teleportation watches.

"Likely hoping to capture the same frenzied, nostalgic excitement that was created by the release of the Nike Mags, Mattel has just announced that the company will be creating a 1:1 replica of the hover board used by Michael J. Fox’s character in both Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III. The board will make “whooshing” sounds similar to the films and Mattel mentioned that the board will “glide over most surfaces,” but not actually hover. Mattel is targeting a November or December 2012 release window"

Star Fairies: I thought it was a dream

Star Fairies was a doll toy series in 1985 made by the Tonka company. Star Fairies was adapted into a televised cartoon movie, made by Hanna-Barbera in 1985. Family Home Entertainment released this TV movie on VHS in 1986 and Warner Home Video has yet made plans to release this film on DVD.

I was born in 1982 and I was 3 in 1985, I remember the tv special vaguely and I thought it was a dream. The other day I stumbled upon this series on Wikipedia when looking at old toy lines like Tonka and Galoob and Kenner. I was pleasantly surprised I remember this as I never had the VHS cassette.

The movie is about a princess star fairy named Sparkle who lives up in the clouds in Castle WishStar. Sparkle's job is to grant wishes to children who wish upon a star, but lately she has been overwhelmed by the increasing number of wishes being made. So she asks for help and receives not one, but five new star fairy helpers named: True Love, Whisper, Jazz, Spice, and Nightsong. As the story goes on, fairies meet a little girl named Hillary (Drew Barrymore), who is upset but cannot think of a wish to make her happy. Hillary and other star fairies then seek help from Princess Sparkle. When Hillary and the Star Fairies return to Castle WishStar, they discover Princess Sparkle's Wand has been stolen by a group of short, hairy elves, who have also made off with the WishingWell. This sends them on a journey to recover the wand.

This toy line didn't have villains but in the cartoon, they had little elves that stole their wand.

Golden Girl and the Gaurdians of the Gemstone

We all know She-Ra and He-Man, but this toy line from Galoob (Before it was purchased by Hasbro in 1999, it was the third largest toymaker in the United States) pre-dates She-Ra. It came out in 1983 and only lasted one year. It was an ambitious toy line of 5 heronie figures, one 'token male,' 4 villainesses, one male villain, 2 horses, and fashions (like Jem). It did not have an animated series but there was lunch boxes, colorform pack, series of books, coloring books and a board game. Some might remember a cartoon series but what they might be thinking of is cartoon-ish looking artwork for the lunch box, t-shirt and Colorforms. The artwork for the doll boxes and books remind me of Jem and She-Ra.

The plot was: heroine Golden Girl, and her consort of female warriors known as The Guardians of the Gemstone. The group's main aim is to protect the citizens of Argonia from the evil Dragon Queen.

* Golden Girl - The leader of the Guardians. She travels on her unicorn, Olympia.
* Saphire - Golden Girl's best friend and fighter.
* Rubee - A red-headed warrior from the Fire Isle. Her weapon is a flare-tipped arrow.
* Onyx - From the Isle of Dunes. Her weapons are throwing stones and a saber.
 * Jade - From the Ermaline Island. She uses a broadsword.
* Prince Kroma - Occasionally joining the Guardians is Prince Kroma, whose arch nemesis is Ogra.

The toy collectors find that the dolls don't last long, their lamine capes start flaking, their knees start getting green, the limbs keep falling apart and other problems. And people who might have the dolls, they might not know what they have and think it is She-Ra.

I would love if they brought this back. I think the reasons why this toy line did not succeed was because it was aims towards girls but had weapons and different things. It was too 'girly' for boys and too 'violent' for girls at the time. Even with She-Ra, they didn't have that many weapons. And villains in girl toy lines is rare but it has happened: She-Ra, Jem, Sailor Moon, Princess Gwenviere, W.I.T.C.H., Winx Club, Monster High, etc.

Villains
    * Dragon Queen - Lives on Storm Isle after being banished from Argonia. She uses dark magic and carries a samurai sword. She rides a black horse called Shadow.
* Vultura - Practices witchcraft and is armed with long, sharp claws.
* Moth Lady - Born from a cocoon, she now has wings and carries a trident.
* Wild One - Armed with knowledge of the wild, she carries a battle-axe
* Ogra - The man, Leader of another group known as the Barbarian Horses, Ogra occasionally joins Dragon Queen in fighting the Guardians.

Did I just hear 'Pussy Motherfuckers' in Daily Show?

Samantha Bee's 'Asshole' got bleeped but when they showed news footage of Wisconsin protesters and he said 'Pussy Motherfuckers' and it did not get bleeped. Wisconsin is upset about a recall that the vote stayed with the same guy.
