More Cast in The Watchmen, more of a reality

It is becoming more of an reality that the Watchmen will become a movie. For those who don't know about The Watchmen, its premise is what if superheroes existed in our real world? Viliginates existed in the 30s but a ban was put on vigilantes in the 70s and they returned to their so-called real lives. But now, someone is murdering them one by one. The comic was set in the 1980s and Richard Nixon was still President in this comic's world. Zack Synder (300) is directing the movie adaptation and so far they got some cuties...

Strapping Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, The Good Shepherd) as Dr. Manhattan. I see Crudup in more a funny role, I dunno if he can be as reflective as Manhattan. Dr. Manhattan was a man who through a radioactive accident becomes a indifferent and existential demi-god.

Scrumptious and rugged stage actor Patrick Wilson (Little Children) as the Nite-Owl. I always saw Nite-Owl as disheveled, unpreserved but Wilson is anything but. Nite-Owl was the second of his kind, picking up the mantel from a veteran and being down in his luck in all accounts.

Smoking hot Brit Mathew Goode as Ozymandias but I don't know if he will be as compelling as the character needs to be. A super rich playboy whose name and appearance comes from a fascination with all things Egyptian. He has a huge company that enables him to have a genetically-created red-hued Lynx.

Jackie Earle Haley was also in Little Children with Wilson. He will portray the important Rorschach. Rorschach is a shady vigilante that carries a diary and investigates a murder of a former vigilante and pretty much draws everyone together.

Malin Akerman (Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, "Entourage," "The Comeback") has been cast as Laurie Juspeczyk. I have not seen her work. Laurie is the daughter of the Silk Spectre, who pushed her into the 'superhero' biz but eventually stole Dr. Manhattan from his first love. They lived together for years but she grew tired of his isolation and becomes friends with Night Owl.

And a bit of perfect casting I think is Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Denny Duquette of "Grey's Anatomy" and the dad John Winchester on "Supernatural") as The Comedian. The Comedian is a jackass bad boy who worked with Dr. Manhattan for the government. He was also accused of sexually assaulting Laurie's mother.

Gurinder Chadha off the I Dream of Jeannie Movie Adaption?

TV Show Official Website

I loved "I Dream of Jeannie." In 2004 it was announced that the Kenyan-born British Director, producer and writer of Indian heritage Gurinder Chadha of Bend It Like Beckham was to helm a film adaptation of "I Dream of Jeannie." She is now attached to adapt "Dallas."

Countingdown.com News Article 2004
Chadha says, "She's a Muslim girl, and the story is about Muslims." "The notion of women in burkas on a big Hollywood screen is pretty radical." She also says, "She is a young woman who understands her self-worth and has grand ambition back in a time when women weren't supposed to have any ambition," said Ganis. "The astronaut Tony Nelson will be there along with characters recognizable from the show. But there are surprises and a unique and original setting." Then in IndiaGlitz.com 2005, she says: "That's been put on hold. I'm re-writing the script, changing the stress and accents from the original television serial to suit these times."

Wikipedia says that according to some sources, Chadha lost the job because of her lack of knowledge of the show. "Chadha suggested a possible story line which would be somewhat darker than the original series, with Jeannie as a headstrong girl who is punished for becoming a soldier by being imprisoned in a bottle as a genie. As Columbia Pictures began to see the direction Chadha was going it is rumored they cancelled that idea and told her to create a story line more closely relating to the original show. Upon her incapability to do so Columbia released Chadha from her contract on I Dream of Jeannie." But as suspected, the Wikipedia article doesn't give any links or sources. I looked and looked but couldn't find anything saying that she was released. I have only found "she's attached."

A Duh Too Far

The first time I saw one of the commercials for the Hyundai Big Duh Sale Event, I rolled my eyes but now there are too many commercials and they are playing too much of them and all the time. I am tired of hearing "Duh. Duh. Duh." You guys aren't so clever dudes.

Where did the Green Hornet come from?

We all know the 60's television version of Batman with the campy attitude, colorful costumes and Pow! Wow! graphics. When it originally aired on ABC in 1966, it was paired with "The Green Hornet" that made Bruce Lee extremely popular. He played the Green Hornet's sidekick Kato. As a kid, I was curious about the Batman-Green Hornet crossover. I become aware of the series when the FX Channel started airing old shows like Batman, Wonder Woman, Dynasty, Fantasy Island, etc.; my dad watched the show as a kid and it was his favorite show. A few days ago, I watched the movie loosely based on Bruce Lee's life and they said the show was marketed as "The Kato Show" in Hong Kong. I was now curious if it was true and where did the Green Hornet originate from.

It happens to be that the Green Hornet started as a radio series in 1936 WXYZ's George W. Trendle and Fran Striker, who also created The Lone Ranger. Britt Reid, the newspaper publisher and crime-fighting vigilante was later revealed to be the blood relative of the Lone Ranger. The radio series lasted until 1952. The TV series only lasted one season and the last episode is consider non-canon, and as well as the Batman crossover. A short-lived comic book series started in 1940 and then went on and off from then. In 1989, NOW comics published The Green Hornet and established a continuity between the different versions of the story. In the comic, the TV/Bruce Lee version of Kato was the son of the Kato from the radio stories. The comic also established a new Kato, a much younger sister of the television character. This female Kato also insisted on being treated as the Hornet's full partner rather than a sidekick. Other projects were left unpublished since NOW folded.

Film serials were made in 1940 and feature films were edited from the television series and the film serials. A new film version has been in the works for decades. In the 1990s, the magazine Comics Scene reported that George Clooney and Jason Scott Lee were lined up to play the leads. As of the summer of 2004, Kevin Smith was writing a screenplay for a new rendition of The Green Hornet which was originally scheduled for release in 2005. It was rumored that Jet Li would portray Kato and Jake Gyllenhaal would play the Green Hornet. In 2004, Kevin Smith put the film on the back burner. At the 2006 Wondercon, Smith announced he was no longer officially linked with The Green Hornet.

Farscape in small webisodes?

The Sci-Fi Channel that canceled the brilliant and beautiful "Farscape" in 2003 and fans fought and fought. They are finally brought us a mini-series Peacekeeper Wars and wrapped off the series finale's cliffhanger. Sci-Fi plans to release a dozen of 3 to 6 minute long installments in the Fall. I rather have the show back. They considered the show too expensive and thats why it was canceled. I think if they killed it, then let it rest in peace. I used to hate Webisodes because they weren't that great in production but now that the internet video is the biggest fad, maybe this will work. Fans watch and catch up on episodes online, so I am sure these will be popular. They say that most of the cast will be in the show in the beginning, they still have to make some deals but the producer Brian Henson is hard at work on them.
