Rainbow Brite Early Designs

No surprise I have love Rainbow Brite, it is now nearing 34 anniversary of Rainbow Brite. The designs were designed initially by G.G. Santiago. These pictures from Hallmark's facebook page.
Here are the final designs. Top (Left to Right): Red Butler, La La Orange, Yellow Canary, Patty O'Green, Buddy Blue, Indigo and Shy Violet. Bottom (L-R): Moonglow, Stormy, Rainbow Brite, and Tickled Pink.

Rainbow Brite
Here are primilary designs by G.G. Santiago of Rainbow Brite. The last one is closer to the final design which Hallmark asked to ditch the pigtails and the space helmet.

Scarlet Rose
Before Red Butler, there was female red Color Kid. Apparently she was a congo girl and then a musical cowgirl. They then decided she should be a boy and renamed Red Butler.

La La Orange
La La Orange's final hair color was brown and not orange. Here one is closer to her final hair color and the other was orange.

Canary Yellow
She stayed a dancer in the end.

Patty O' Green
Her hair stayed about the same but her outfit changed.

Luna Blue
Before Buddy Blue, there was Luna Blue. I like both designs. One looks very much like Rainbow Brite and La La Orange's final designs. The other looks a little like a ballerina like Canary Yellow turned out to be. She was later changed to the male sporty Buddy Blue.

Shy Violet
It seems Shy Violet always had glasses and her outfits always seemed awkward.

Indigo
She always was African-American it seems but her costume seem more purple than Indigo.

Tickled Pink
She seemed to have both pigtails but her costume was more ballerina like.

Baby Brite
The early design is left and the final is right. I kind of like the early design. Baby Brite only appeared in the "Beginning of Rainbowland" and she was mostly remembered as a toy.

Stormy
Stormy's final design had purple and green and blue but this early design seemed mostly purple and had interesting hairstyle.

Twink
Renamed as Twinkle because of the gay adoption of the name as slang for a young-looking man, Twink had a strange design that had butterfly wings, kid socks and a button nose.

Neon Kid
Okay that is not her real name but this was a design for a unreleased Color Kid. I guess this was the next step. But the show and toyline was cancelled and didn't continue. I like the design but I always wished other colors got love like Fucshia, Periwinkle, and Chartreuse. Anyway I like her transparent jacket. It was almost the 90's and neon colors were the rage.

Color Castle
I love the Color Castle design but I never knew it has seven towers having to do with the Color Kids. I always wanted a toy for it but they never made it. There was prototypes for a toy.

My Top Ten Animated Horses

The majority are from Disney, it can't be helped as they have the majority of horses. I'm not counting unicorns (even though I love The Last Unicorn), Pegasus (sorry Disney's Hercules), ponies (sorry My Little Pony) or robotic horses (yes they exist).

10. Spirit/Swiftwind
She-Ra's horse was suppose to be female but they cast the male voice that did Battlecat in He-Man and he became male. Spirit became the Allicorn Swiftwind.

9. Angus
Disney/Pixar's Brave had Merida and her horse loyal steed Angus. He is a Clydesdale.

8. Bullseye
He doesn't speak, doesn't do much or contribute to the plot but he is a sweetheart and loyal. He debuted in Toy Story 2 and continued on to Toy Story 3 and the shorts and TV specials. He is the only toy horse on the list.

7. Headless Horseman's horse
In The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Sleepy Hollow was adapted and the Headless Horseman had his equally scary black horse with the red eyes. The horse's name was Daredevil in some stories.

6. Samson
Prince Philip's horse in Sleeping Beauty (the 50's) was considered his personality by the animators. The Disney animators before the 80's hated animating the Princes. They thought them boring and stiff but the animators enjoyed animating Samson as an extension of Philip. He is the only grey horse on the list.

5. Phillipe
Belle's dad's horse in Beauty and the Beast (1991). He was smart but a coward, he abandoned his owner to go get Belle. But when Belle stayed at the Beast's castle, he did too. He is the second brown horse on this list.
4. Skydancer
Starlite was cool but Skydancer was the bad boy horse in Rainbow Brite, belonging to Stormy. Stormy was in charge of lightning, storms and winter. Skydancer jumped on clouds and sneeze out icicles. Onyx the robotic horse was cool too but I didn't want this post to be all about Rainbow Brite. He is the only purple horse on the list.

3. Kahn
The loyal horse of Mulan (1998), he always stood by her and protected her but did not help Mushu nor the lucky cricket.  He is the third black horse on the list.

2. Maximus
The horse of the guards of a kingdom in Disney's Tangled (2010), he was relentless to find Finn. Maximus didn't speak but conveyed a lot in his face and actions. He was a bit anthropomorphic as he did things horse aren't even capable of doing. He is one of three computer animated horses on this list.

1. Starlite
Number one has to be the most magnificent horse in the whole universe, Starlite (Starlight) of Rainbow Brite. Rainbow Brite was a 1983 franchise from Hallmark Cards that included TV specials, a movie ("Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer"), toys, cards and other merchandise. He 'flew' by running on a Rainbow. What made him so magnificent other than he can speak. He entered a large castle on his own to retrieve a stolen belt and save Rainbow Brite. Also, he always managed to outsmart Murky Dismal, which wasn't a big feat unto itself but still.  Plus he is the third white horse in this list.

Care Bear Cousins through the years

While the Care Bears started in 1982, the Care Bear Cousins were introduced in 1985. Meaning their 30th anniversary was last year. The cousins went from 9 originally introduced in toys and the Dic series to 10 in the Nelvana series (Noble Heart Horse added) to 9 for the 2004 revival toys (Treat Heart Pig omitted) and to now 4 for the Netflix series.
The Hub had a show called "Welcome to Care-A-Lot," sequel series has now showed up on  Netflix called Care Bears & Cousins with four of the Care Bear Cousins.

The four cousins are Brave Heart Lion, Bright Heart Raccoon, Lotsa Heart Elephant and Cozy Heart Penguin.

Proud Heart Cat
Originally a peach color, he was given a turquoise color in 2004 for the revival in merchandise and toy. He was a baby in the Care Bears II: New Generation. He doesn't get much attention. He was made female in 2004. Left to right; 1985 promotional art, Dic cartoon and Nelvana cartoon. Her symbol is a heart in a star.

Loyal Heart Dog
A blue dog. Left to Right: 1985 promo art, Dic, Nelvana and 2004 toy. The 2005 toy he got a heart-shaped patch over his eye. His symbol is a bar holding a heart.

 Gentle Heart Lamb
A female light green lamb. She is shy and sweet. Left to Right: 1985 Promo image, Dic, Nelvana and 2004 toy. Her symbol is a pin-cushion heart.

Playful Heart Monkey
Male yellow-orange monkey. He is the jokester of the group. Left to Right: 1985 promo image, Dic, Nelvana and 2004 toy. His symbol was a heart with a party hat on it with a birthday horn. For the revival, the horn was removed and the party hat went on top of the heart.

Swift Heart Rabbit
Female light blue fur rabbit. She is super fast and is overconfident. In 2004, the wings went from in front of the heart and to the bottom to being behind the heart on the top. In the Dic cartoon, she was referred to as a 'he' even though in the Nelvana cartoons she was a she. Left to Right: 1985 promo image, Dic, Nelvana, 2004 toy

Treat Heart Pig
Yellow female pig with a ice cream cone symbol. She was not included in the 2nd Care Bears movie and was not included in neither the 2004 nor the 2016 revival. In the 1985 promo info, she was referred to as a he.
Left to Right: 1985 promo pic, Dic and Nelvana

 Noble Heart Horse
He was introduced as the dad-figure in Care Bears II: A New Generation. His fur is purple but the toy was multi-pastel color. He did have a 2004 revival toy even though wikipedia pages say no. In a comic book he appeared to be on all fours and Proud Heart Bear rode her. His symbol is  a heart with a star on it.

 Cozy Heart Penguin
Left to Right: 1985 art, Dic, Nelvana, 2004 revival and 2016 series. She is a lilac color, she is sweet. Her 2016 revival is the shortest and trills instead of speaking. Her symbol is a heart with a hat on it.

Bright Heart Raccoon
Left to right: 1985 promo art, dic, nelvana, 2004 promo art and 2016 series. His symbol was a heart like a lightbulb and for the 2004 revival, it became light sparks around the heart to back to the original symbol for 2016. He is the smart one.

Lotsa Heart Elepehant
He was a strong and caring pink bear. For the 2016 revival, he was changed to female. Left to Right: 1985 promo art, Dic, Nelvana, 2004 toy and 2016 series. Symbol is a weight with hearts on it.

 Brave Heart Lion
The de-facto leader/male brown-orange lion. Left to Right: 1985 promo art, Dic, Nelvana, 2004 revival and 2016 series. The symbol is basically a crown on a heart but changed. He is the only one that his symbol has changed the most out of the four chosen for the revival. Originally the crown was to the left and had pink on top. In the revival it was purple and to the right. For 2016, stayed to the right without a cushion.

If this series succeeds, I would love to see them all back. I am guessing the Lamb, Monkey and Rabbit are most likely to be revived.

My Star Wars Prequel Ideas: How it should have went

I am aware that plenty of fans have written their thoughts on the prequels and how they would have wanted it to happen. Most of the descriptions are long. I am just going to write a short (as I can). George Lucas' original trilogy worked so well because he had different directors. He tried getting other ones for the prequels like Steven Speilberg, Ron Howard and Robert Zemeckis but they all turned him down, thinking he should do it. Lucas needs a story editor, he works better with special effects and CGI.
The original trilogy had key facts about the past:
  • Obi Wan fought in the Clone Wars
  • Obi Wan served Leia's adopted father from Alderaan
  • Leia remembers her mother being sad
  • Uncle Owen didn't believe Anakin should've gotten involved in the war
  • Anakin was already a pilot before Obi Wan met him.
  • Obi Wan thought he could train Anakin as good as Yoda.
Things I liked about Lucas' prequels:
  • Obi-Wan's disappointment in Anakin
  • Anakin and Padme falling in love
  • Anakin being the cause of Padme's death even thogh he wanted to prevent it
  • The clones of the Clone Wars being Janko Fett, father of Boba Fett.
Episode I
I liked the name Phantom Menace and I like Darth Maul, many agree they should had kept him a little longer. I found it was pretty obvious that Sentor Palaptine was the Emperor as he was the same actor but I have no problem with it though. Other names I would had chose would be: A Jedi's Hope or Peace Disrupted
  • First of all, I wouldn't have Anakin be a child, more a bit older. I know that defeats the whole Jedis being trained as little kids but if they really needed Anakin as a kid, maybe in the beginning of the movie and moved on.
  • Pod race was fine but I would had appreciated it being in space so he was a 'real pilot.'
  • Instead of being an only child with no dad, I would had appreciated Anakin to have his brother Owen and know him a little better.
  • I didn't like that in a deleted scene for The Attack of the Clones, Padme visited her family and it was mom, dad and bunch of kids. Padme was basically had away at summer camp being Queen. So her being an orphan is fine, or at least her father was a king and died mid-way.
  • Anakin DID NOT build C3-PO which makes no sense.
  • Gungans do not exist in my version. The main conflict should be the Jedi vs the Sith, and Dath Maul.
  • Have Qui Gon Jinn killed by Darth Maul but get away with it and leave.
Episode II
I know he was going for the whole 30's serials with the title "Attack of the Clones" but I didn't like it. Empire Strikes Back also had that feeling but as kids we accepted it. It isn't as corny. I wanted this movie to be the romantic one but it is barely romantic. I would keep Count Dooku but remove the whole Obiwan and Anakin fighting monsters and Padme being captured. Titles I'd prefer: Secret of the Clones or Secrets Uncovered or Moonlight
  • Keep Anakin killing the sandpeople that killed his mom.
  • Maybe C3-PO is introduced here as Padme's assistant.
  • Build a bit on Anakin and Owen's relationship and him telling him not to join the war.
  • Expand more on Janko Fett and his son.
  • Expand the battle of Count Dooku, the Jedi and the clones
  • Expand on the romance between Anakin and Padme, since in this version they would be closer in age. Anakin and Padme would marry earlier on. Obi Wan would be more against it.
  • Build on Anakin's relationship with Senator Palptine and hint more on his diversion to evil.
  • Keep Anakin's arm chopped off of course. Have Darth Maul do it and have Obi-Wan kill Darth Maul.
  • Have clearer explanation about Jedis retaining their identities after death and only a few can be Force Ghosts.
Episode III
I would keep the title "Revenge of the Sith"
  • Anakin killing Mace Windu at least in a different location and not with that giant window, I always think that of the people that have to fix that glass.
  • Change that awkward scene where Obi Wan tells Padme that he knows the Anakin is the father.
  • And change some people calling Obi Wan as "young" as later on he is old only less than 30 years later in "A New Hope."
  • Padme would had faked her death at childbirth to keep Darth Vader away
  • Padme would marry Bail Prestor Organa (Jimmy Smits) and go under an assumed name and live with Leia.
  • Luke would still be given to Owen and Beru.
  • Padme would had left Organa and Leia alone one night and go to another planet and discovered by Dath Vader, at that shock that what he has become, she becomes scared. He tries to show her he hasn't changed but inadvertently she is killed or maybe killed by the Emperor when trying to find out where Luke and Leia are.
  • Keep C3-PO and R2D2's memory wipe.

There's more but I wanted to keep it short.
