Difference between Reboots, Revivals or Reimagining

The word "Reboot" is thrown around too much that I think people get confused. I read one article where they called Roseanne's recent return a "Reboot" when it was actually a revival. Here are my definitions.

Reboot
Starting all over again. Same basic characters or plot but with new actors. They put a reset button. Batman Begins had the same character of Bruce Wayne and same setting of Gotham City but a whole new story and theme and tone. Another example of reboots (but unsuccessful) are Ghostbusters (2016), Friday the 13th (2009), and Nightmare on Elm Street (2010). A reboot of a TV Show would be "Party of Five" on Freeform, "One Day at a Time," "Charmed" on the CW, and the short-lived ones like Roswell (2018) on CW and Tomorrow People (2013) on CW.

Soft Reboot
GI Joe Retaliation is a sequel but gets rid of the majority of the cast mid-way and adds new characters, it changes tone as well. It is a soft reboot. Other soft reboots were Batman Forever from Batman Returns where they changed actors, directors and tone. This also counts for Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Reimagining
The Mummy (1999) was a reimagining of the 1932 film and considered a 'loose remake.' Also House of Wax (2005) was a reimagining and almost had nothing to do with the original 1953 film. Little Shops of Horrors (1986) was based on the broadway play (1982) which was based on the 1960 film. It could be considered a 're-imagining' of the original, also can be said of The Producers (2005) which was based on the 2001 musical which was based on the 1967 film.

Revival
Revival has happened to shows like 'Roseanne,' 'Will & Grace,' 'Murphy Brown,' 'Gilmore Girls' and 'X-Files.' They just continued where they left off with the same cast. Reboots are usually with a different cast. Same has happened in the past with 'Family Guy,' 'Samurai Jack' and Futurama. "The Conners" would count as a sequel series and so would "Girl Meets World" and "Fuller House." Some were short lived like 24, X-Files, Murphy Brown and Samurai Jack.

It: Chapter One and Chapter Two Cast Conparisions

I loved the first chapter and even though the first didn't have the adults, the second is said to have the young versions in it as flashbacks.

Jaeden Lieberher and James McAvoy as Bill
They don't really look a like and I guess James will be doing an American accent. But basically Bill stays a cute lean nerd. James McAvoy is best known for Split and X-Men: First Class.

Sophia Lillis and Jessica Chastain as Beverly
Perfect casting in that her name came out in conversation in who to cast. Jesica Chastain is best known for Jurassic World.

Finn Wolfhard and Bill Hader as Richie
Perfect casting as Richie is a smartmouth snarker and they do kinda look a like. Bill Hader is best known for the Skeleton Twins, SNL, Cloudy with a chance of meatballs and Power Rangers.

Chosen Jacobs and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike
Mike is important in the book but didn't get much focus in the first movie. Isaiah Mustafa is known for Shadowhunters and those Old Spice commercials. He doesn't look much like Chosen but oh well.

Wyatt Oleff and Andy Bean as Stan
More or less look a like. Stan is the token Jew. If you already read the book or saw the original, you'd already know what happens to Stan. Andy Bean has been in Allegiant.

Jay Ryan and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben
Well since Ben is supposed to be chubby as a kid and hunk years later, it is obvious they don't have to look that much a like. Jay Ryan is New Zealand-Australian, he has been in Neighbours and CW Beauty and the Beast.

Jack Dylan Grazer and James Ranzone as Eddie
Perfect casting they do look a like. Ranzone was on The Wire.

Teach Grant and Nicholas Hamilton as Henry
Henry seemed to die in the first movie but they cast Nicholas Hamilton in the second so let's see what happens. They don't look a like but what can you do? Teach Grant is from Canada while Nicholas Hamilton is from Australia.

Deadpool 2 Mutants Roll Call

While there was just three well-known mutants highlighted in Deadpool, it looks like FOX upped the anty with ore mutants. Not only X-Men this time but what looks like X-Force. Deadpool is determined to save a boy Russell from time-traveling Cable gets in the way. Everyone already knows Cable, son of Scott Summers from the comics so here are some more...

Domino
Domino (Zazie Beetz) has the power to change probability. It seems like a strange power at first but it's proven useful to Domino in combat, giving her unparalleled marksman abilities (She never misses) and helps her get out of most situations unharmed. In the comics, Domino is the result of a government breeding program like several others in the X-Men universe. After escaping the program, Domino became a mercenary, working with a group called Six Pack, until she eventually joins the X-Force. Deadpool 2 has changed her ethnicity, hence changing her well known eye makeup.

Bedlam
Bedlam (Terry Crews--Brooklyn Nine-Nine) has bioelectric abilities that allow him to disrupt and affect electrical systems. He's also trained in hand-to-hand combat. Jesse Bedlam is one half of the X-Men comic's Bedlam brothers. After being orphaned, Jesse is separated from his brother Christopher, placed in a psychiatric hospital, and tortured. He is eventually rescued by Professor X and placed on a mutant task force called M.U.S.E. Later, Bedlam teams up with Domino to track down his brother, then joins Christopher's mutant team New Hellions, and finally switches to join the X-Force to stop Christopher from reviving Armageddon Man.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yoiki/Surge (?)
The Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) we see in the first Deadpool movie is different than the one seen in the comics. In the movie, Negasonic works with Colossus, using her explosive powers to help Deadpool rescue Vanessa. In the comic books, Negasonic Teenage Warhead has telepathic powers and dies a lot. Negasonic can bee seen wearing X-Men gear in the trailer for the sequel. She is also seen accompanied by a pink hair mutant by the name of Yoiki (Shioli Kutsuna). It is said she is her girlfriend. She electrifies her metal chain in the trailer. Some sources say she is based on Surge, an obscure Japanese X-Men who manifests electricity-based powers.

Shatterstar
Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) has superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, healing, and more. He can also generate bioelectric shocks, which channels into objects, most often a sword he carries. This ability makes Shatterstar an especially powerful fighter. Shatterstar is a mutant created by bio-engineering in another dimension called Mojoworld, where he is an enslaved fighter. After escaping, Shatterstar tasks himself with defeating Mojo V, the ruler of Mojoworld. In his quest, he meets Cable and joins the X-Force after he is assured that the team will help him defeat Mojo.

Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgard--Pennywise from It and brother of Alexander Skarsgard) has the power to spit acidic vomit from his mouth, which can burn through any substance in the world. In the comics, Zeitgeist is a leader in the X-Force team. After becoming dissatisfied with the team, he plans a mission that will kill most of the members of the X-Force but it goes awry and Zeitgeist is eventually killed himself.

Russell/Firefist (?)
Footage showed that Russell (Julian Dennison) has pyrokinetic abilities, meaning he can control and create fire out of his hands. Some fans believe this kid could be Russell “Rusty” Collins, the mutant also known as Firefist. Other mutants were guessed to be but ultimately Firefist seems to be the closet character.

Dream Casting: Batgirl and Gotham Girls

Batgirl is coming up directed by Joss Whedon and not much details have been revealed yet but this is who I picture for the role. And also Gotham Girls, which will have Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The Batgirl I would want is the daughter of Commissioner Gordon and I know Joss Whedon would probably have her be a teenager or in her 20's. So it would be nice to have her mother. I like the idea of having them living in an apartment and Barbara Gordon leaving from an outside staircase or scaling the building. The mother doesn't necessarily have to be a homemaker, she could be a scientist or a teacher.

Batgirl
 Batgirl/Barbara Gordon
Most likely Joss Whedon will cast young and an unknown. I like Meaghan Martin from the short-lived "Ten Things I hate about you" and "Awkward" (where she played Julie). She's in her mid-twenties, maybe they will go the teenage route. In that case, there is Madelaine Petsch of Riverdale. Some people are saying Emma Stone but I think she might be too mature for a teenage Batgirl. If they chose Cassandra Cain to be Batgirl, the actress they pick should be good at comedy, drama, good at drawing audiences in with true emotion and of course kick-ass at the action scenes.

 Commissioner James Gordon
Even though Ben Mckenzie is doing a great job as Jim Gordon on Gotham TV series, I think Batgirl's dad should be a little older but not too old. I think he should not be a fat old guy but a capable man.

Barbara Kean-Gordon
I think I would want Michelle Pferrier as a myth gag but also she has shone her comedy-drama-action skills in not only Batman Returns but also Stardust. I think she should have a career and have a partnership like relationship with Jim but be vcry busy with work. Also she should have more keen knowledge that maybe her daughter is Batgirl. But of course this would be all moot if they chose Cassandra Cain as Batgirl instead of Barbara Gordon.

Gotham Girl Sirens
 Poison Ivy/Pamela Isley
On the other hand I think Emma Stone would make a good Poison Ivy, not because of her trademark red hair but her snide talk, sexiness and overall genre-jumping with no skips. She can handle drama, comedy and action and go from crying to laughing at a drop of a hat.

Catwoman/Selina Kyle
Priyanka Chopra of Quantico would be a good choice for Catwoman. She is sultry and can handle drama and action. Catwoman has been played before by diverse women such as Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriweather and Ertha Kit in both the big and small screen.

Different versions of X-Men in the X-films

There is a sore spot in fans (including me) but depending on the producer, director or casting director, different mutants have showed up in the various X-Men films played by different actors. My problem isn't that they are played by different actors but the portrayal of them conflict and there's no continuity. Now, even one character has appeared in three films played by different actresses and time periods. I'm not counting Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart/James Mcavoy), Magento (Ian Mckellen/Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Rebecca Romajin/Jennifer Lawrence), Cyclops (James Marsden/Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Framke Jensen/Sansa Stark), Storm (Halle Berry/Alexandra Shipp) and Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming/Kodi Smit-Mcphee)  as actors are playing them at different ages. Tim Pocock also played a young Cyclops in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but thankfully Days of Future Past canceled that out.

Jubilee
In X-Men (2000), she has a non-speaking role by Katrina Floerce and is a teenager. In X-2, she is played by Kea Wong. She is mistankingly put on IMDB as appearing in X-Men: Last Stand but it as actually Psylocke. She was a teenager in the 2000's. But then because of the time-travel change, Jubilee's parents might have her earlier because she magically appears as a teenager in the 80's. Unless she was a twenty-something in the 2000's. In the new X-Men: Apocalypse film, Lana Condor plays her. The excuse with other characters like Psylocke, Angel and Sabertooth was that other directors directed those movies they were in but Bryan Singer directed all the movies she is in. I guess she didn't have a major role in the first 2 movies, it is excusable.

Kitty Pryde
In X-Men, she had a quick cameo played by Sumela Kay and went through a door, startling Wolverine. In X-2, she was played Katie Stuart and tried escaping from Stiker's forces. In X-Men: Last Stand and Days of Future Past, Ellen Page played her in bigger roles than in the first two movies.

Psylocke
Psylocke had a minor role by Mei Melancon in X-Men: The Last Stand and was a villain and destroyed. Now she is portrayed by Olivia Munn in X-Men: Apocalypse. She is slightly older than her first incarnation and since she wasn't mentioned by name in the movies, it is excusable. It could've been a different mutant completely.

Angel
Warren Worthington was portrayed by Ben Foster in X-Men: The Last Stand who appeared in the beginning and sparingly throughout the movie. He is now slightly younger in X-Men: Apocalypse played by Ben Hardy. The Worthingtons probably also got busy before they originally did because of the time schism.

Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds played him in Wolverine: Origins (2009) and then in Deadpool (2016). No one liked his portrayal in the first movie and he fought for the role again and now everyone love the new movie he plays the character like in the comics.

 Gambit
Taylor Kitsch played Remy LeBeau in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he will now be portrayed by Channing Tatum in a new movie.

Sabertooth
Liev Schreiber played Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Logan's brother. While Tyler Mane played him in the first X-Men movie. Ugh, let's just ignore both.

Moira MacTaggert
Played by in a small role in X-Men: Last Stand, she was a doctor how she was in the comics. But played by Rose Byrne in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse as a spy and ally. She is not a mutant but a vital character. Little confusing as she is the same age in the 70's as in 2006, probably not the same character.
